I've got a Lifetime Subscription, but can't really install

I have a lifetime subscription. Had to move to a new computer. Logged in to Plex Web, download Plex 1.43.3.2951-1d73e3f3, and I can get as far as the “get Plex Media Server” window. I download that (1.25.95721-965587f64). It says it is successfully installed HOWEVER any attempt to connect my Media Server, which is all in one place, gets me right back to the “get Plex Media Server” message and the download screen. I’ve been through this at least 7 times. Is Plex just not working anymore???

Make sure you’re connecting to your newly installed server through the bundled version of Plex Web – using the server’s local IP address from within the same subnet. If you’re on the same machine, use http://127.0.0.1:32400/web; if you’re on a different machine in the same network , use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead.

After you’ve completed the setup (naming your server, linking it to your Plex account, optionally created your first set of libraries), you can also access it from other apps (e.g. the Plex for Windows desktop player you’ve mentioned in your post or the hosted version of Plex Web → https://app.plex.tv/desktop).

Hmmmm … so the Plex server does nothing to find the path to the server?? The instructions online seem to say it is easier than that. I’ll try going in through the IP, sounds like a huge pain in the rear.

If your server would do that, you’d be in serious trouble. At this stage your server is just a vanilla installation and e.g. not linked to your account – neither the web app nor your server know this installation is yours. Hence the final steps of the setup.

OK … I’m confused. I tried that, but it only seems to apply to the website. I am trying to set up the stand alone Plex app and get it to recognize my server. That’s the problem I am having … I don’t seem to be able to do that. I don’t really use the web version all that much.

You need to set up and claim your server (using the web) before you can access it from a client.

Did that. Set up my server and libraries on the web. Also got my copy of Plex stand alone, however, there doesn’t seem to be a way to tell the stand alone app where the server is.

In addition, I’d like to be able to use the Plex apps on my iPhone and iPad, but it appears these no longer work either.

Maybe it’s time to use something other than Plex?? I don’t want to be stuck at my PC in order to watch movies.

You have downloaded a pure “player” app. Not the “Plex media server”.

Without installing the server software, there is no server to connect to.
Keep also in mind that all data you have collected and organized before, are only residing on your old computer.
If you install Plex server on a new machine, it will be “empty”.

Yes. I found a copy of the stand alone. I will find out where my data is on my old PC. Although, it meaning the server supposedly now has the information for all my movies. How the hell do I tell the stand-alone that my server is where ever it is?? Yes, I “own” the server. Yes, the server appears to be set up correctly, but if I click the icon it takes me straight to the web. I don’t want to use the web … at all. I watch movies on my iPad, and my iPad only. If that is no longer possible, then I’ll drop my subscription for something that allows me to do that.

OK, so more research shows me that there is no longer an app for the iPad or iPhone, and none for Windows. Because of that, I will be cancelling my subscription. Sorry, but you screwed up one of my favorite programs.

Your research seems to be very badly wrong.

Plex for iOS in the Apple App store:

Plex for Windows

alternatively there’s also the HTPC app

I’m not sure what you are referring to with this.
