Plex Media Server not running

Hi all, newbie here. I’ve downloaded Plex Media Server on my desktop computer and it’s not launching when I try to open it from the Program Files folder. I can log in on the web version, but that doesn’t give me access to create a library or set anything up etc. Any ideas?

Running the Plex Media Server app won’t show any user interface / app windows. You should however see a Plex Media Server icon in the Windows system tray.

If the server is running you should be able to finish the setup through the bundled web app → opening http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in a browser on the same machine. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).

Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.

Thank you, that’s really helpful! I’ve got into the interface and got the web app working and the phone app working on my wifi… now having trouble getting it to work off wifi with the remote access. I’ve ordered a router extender to see if that solves the problem…

Hello There;

I am also a newbie, I got the plex media server program installed and I am trying to add library but then it keeps asking me to install media server when I have already. Here is a screenshot.

can someone please help?

Did you already check the instructions above?
Also… did you install the Plex Media Server on your system? The screenshot looks like this might be a player app…

I did check the instructions above and I think I completed the process but not certain.

I did install Plex Media Server, its sitting on my system tray, I just wanted to show that whenever I click on “Your Media” I keep getting prompt to install Plex Media Server when in facf I connect using Open Plex link from the server itself

  1. are you on the same machine, using http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or on the same subnet using the server’s local ip address instead (http://[PMS ip address]:32400/web?
  2. did you possibly run an older version of PMS using a different Plex account on the same machine?

I am on the same machine using http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/. I do have a VPN active though, not sure if that would cause an issue. I on;y have 1 Plex account. I have the server on my computer and the app is also downloaded on to my tv

Hi again! I’m still having problems getting my Alexa Echo Dot to play my music. It worked once, but since then, when I try to ask Alexa to play anything, it either tells me I’ve got no music in my library, or it just ignores me completely. Any ideas?!

I’m having the same problem. Just started today, nothing new with my setup - everything had been working fine as of yesterday. Opening Plex today from my TV showed the server was not communicating. Opening the server from my PC it asked me to login and then produced this problem, not letting me interact with the server from http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

I tried reinstalling the server - same problem appears
deleting the registry values discussed here (https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/) same problem, and the registry values don’t repopulate

Did you ever solve this problem bannyng?

Sorry, me again… I’m having yet another problem, in that when I do a library scan for my music, it’s not picking up all my folders/files. They are the same file type as the others, with the same naming convention, and I can’t work out why it likes some and not others. Any ideas? Thank you!
