Just curious

Two questions:

  • Why was this topic closed? Especially, w/no sort of official response or reason, or anything, in spite of the support it has. Seems like it should’ve at minimum been left open for more discussion.
  • Why does it take seven years for a relatively simple, popular user request to be added, or at least responded to why it won’t be, by someone official at Plex?

It feels like Plex employees/devs think they live on Mount Olympus feeding each other bundles of grapes, playing harps to each other, while us peons just keep praying to the sky in hopes that they’re listening, which apparently ends up they do not.

(I have to admit; that last paragraph was pretty good. I just whipped that one up on the spot.)

Because it was not initially created in the feature suggestion forum which do not close it was a very old topic that was migrated into this new forum software we started using in 2018 so it still had the ruleset from it’s initial import which closes topics after 90days.

I’m going to move it but there may already be one with votes already in the Feature Suggestion

You thinking something is simple does not mean it is.

We are generally not going to respond to every single request unless there is some clarification we need to understand the request. And we don’t make promises about XY or Z request will be done cuz it only leads to accusations like you just made and nonconstructive self serving debates

Well, I’ve been a software dev (including shareware) myself, since ~1995. so I understand that statement before I even make it. That’s why I added “relatively”. In comparison to many other things being coded into Plex, adding what is essentially a chapter mark must be pretty simple in comparison to the other issues faced by the devs. And since YT has already shown it possible, it doesn’t seem like an issue that would take 7 years to figure out.

No Plex employee ever even chimed in during that 7 years, for any clarification … or anything.

Understood, and never expected a promise to add it; just some sort of acknowledgment, even if a “nope!”. When a feature request gets no traction whatsoever with others, I can see just ignoring it; but this one had support, and one would imagine for every person who took the time to sign up to the forum to show support, there are many other’s who don’t take that time out there. It’s also apparently such a desired feature that YT felt compelled to add it. That speaks volumes.

You mean y’all don’t actually hand feed each other grapes?

Well, in fairness, I haven’t logged into the forums in a long time, but back then Plex dev/employees were more like figments of our imagination; we knew they ‘most likely’ existed, but there was no “proof” of their existence. Reading through the forums now, it seems like Plex has fixed that, as I’m seeing quite a bit of Plex employee badges chatting.

because there is nothing to clarify. it is clear what was being asked for
