Keep getting "There was an unexpected error during playback. Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems." in Plex web ONLY. Plex apps are ok

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: Using https://app.plex.tv/

When watching videos via https://app.plex.tv/ on some videos, I keep getting the above error. The videos, however, play fine in the Plex App. As, however, Plex still don’t make an App for Linux that doesn’t really help me. Any ideas why videos play fine in the Android, Windows app (as I do have duel booting), but crashes almost immediately in the browser?

I have attached a copy of my logs for reference.

Two suggestions, neither of which really answer your question.

Try Plex Media Player for Linux : https://knapsu.eu/plex/

Try using a different browser.

Thanks damtor. I’ll have a look at the application on khanpsu. In regards to a different browser, I can replicate the problem on Firefox on Kubuntu, Firefox on Windows 10, and Chrome on ChromeOS, so seems that the browser isn’t the issue and it’s Plex itself…

Anyone else got any ideas on an actual fix for the web client? Is it, perhaps, an issue on Plex’s site, considering the players works and the site does not?

Giving this a bump as this is still a problem; even on the latest (stable) version of Plex Media Server. Any one any ideas how to fix this? I’m “ok” with using knapsu’s great work, but still, using the official web app would be nicer.

Once again bumping this, this is still a problem…

watching via webbrowser is the worst way to watch, only way you can reduce the problem mb stop it is use basic web friendly container mp4 with streaming optimized when its rendered, not use over 5,1 sound preferrably 2.0. and AAC or AC3 audio codec. and bitrate not too high, even though the bandwidth is there, when you got people using web to watch plex you never know.

Unfortunately, with no official support for a Plex Media/Desktop Player on Linux, then the web player is technically Plex’s only supported player. So odd (stupid) considering that they produce Plex Media Server for Linux.

then you need make your library 1990s HTML friendly
or use something for playback thats good, Smart TV, Apple TV

I have an nVidea Shield in the living room, works great, but that doesn’t change the fact that I want to watch Plex without jumping through hoops on Linux. PMP is losing it’s desktop support in the future (not that we have a date), so that isn’t even a long term solution either.

I actually installed the Windows Plex Desktop Player on Linux earlier today, via Lutris, which works, but still, doesn’t explain why the fonts don’t work in the web player.

Still trying to fix this, 4 months on (thanks Plex for continuing to ignore this, along with not supplying Linux with a Media Player…), and seems that it’s a known issue, that they started to discuss, and then forgot about: Plex Server not picking up system wide fonts on Linux
