Keep losing Remote Access

Thanks, I went for a complete reinstall of PMS this morning and it appears to have downgraded the version. I have a notification to update to the current version, which I will do in the morning.

But I was working with 1.43.0 prior to reinstalling this morning.

The port forward is working. But Plex Media Server on the NAS is not registering with servers at plex.tv for some reason.

Is the NAS synchronized with a public time server? If the NAS time is too far off, it can affect registration.

Synology Control Panel → Regional Options → Time tab.

In Time Setting, choose Synchronize with NTP Server, pick a server from the drop down list, then update.

You should see Status: Normal.

Then stop and restart Plex Media Server.

On my list for tomorrow morning. Will let you know what happens.

Thanks for your help.

Ok, public time server was synced, but for Dublin Edinburgh, so I changed it to London- shouldn’t make any difference, as same time zone.

Rebooted PMS, after having updated to most recent version.

And guess what??? It’s still not working.

Ok, well, I have tried as hard as I can, I’ve extended my knowledge, I’ve looked for support in the forum, I’ve searched the internet for solutions.

But try as I might, I can’t make this thing work and no one seems to know why. My conclusion is that Plex is broken. I loved it, but it is just too much work to keep it running efficiently. Or to actually get it to keep running inefficiently.

Time for us to part ways!

Not sure why remote access is not working for your Synology. All the pieces are correct, but it still will not activate.

If you’re up for it, one last set of steps. Guessing there is a glitch in the matrix somewhere with your server and plex.tv systems. Hoping that an unclaim/re-claim and new port number will shake something loose. I do not know if this will fix remote access. It will not cause any problems with the database or your media files.

  1. If still on PMS 1.41.5, update to 1.43.0.10492 (current public release).
  2. Disable Plex Relay in Settings → Network
  3. Disable Remote Access in Settings → Remote Access
  4. In your router, delete the port forward for the Synology.
  5. Create a new port forward with a different port number.
  6. Stop Plex Media Server. Using File Station, navigate to the Plex Data Folder and rename preferences.xml to preferences.save (or anything but .xml).
  7. Use FAQ 31: Reset / Reclaim PMS on DSM 7 (Not Authorized - Locked Out) to unclaim/re-claim the server.
  8. Give the server a few minutes to fully start, then try to activate remote access with the new port number.

Note: With step 6, PMS will create a new preferences.xml with default settings. You’ll need to check/change transcoder, scheduled tasks, etc. settings to desired values.

If remote access still does not activate, then pull & post a new set of log files.

Thanks for that. Process was straightforward enough.

At present, I do have “Fully accessible outside your network”.

Haven’t played anything yet, as I need to reboot Sonos- the Sonos service uses the remote Plex access, rather than play though the local home network.

Will keep an eye on everything for a while and will let you know how it goes.

No, stayed connected for about 15 minutes.

server log files?

PMS restores with Debug level disabled. Will this prevent the logs from cntaining any useful information?

Yes. Debug shows what is happening with Plex.

Debug is the default level. There is rarely any reason to change it. It does not affect the operation of PMS.

Verbose is best avoided unless absolutely necessary. It adds a lot more info to the logs, causing them to wrap very quickly, losing desired information.
