Kodi have smart playlists that can be named, and optinally showed with covers a oreo channels https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=332589. I like a similar setup but not all content, all my content is in plex i want access to the content i haven’t watched. Plex have 2 channels recommendations and something more with thumbnails instead , both channels are called plex which is not very helpful for the uninitiated and the content of them is not helpful for me.
I would suggest that plex handles it in i similar ways as kodi but using the plex libraries as channels making it the “users choise what to show on home screen”. For me i’ve named my libraries as Movies, TV-Shows, Other, Pictures and that’s what I want pulled in on home screen as separate oreo channels. With covers not thumbnails to save screen estate. Preferrably unwatched content sorted by name “and a bonus if anything started/continue to watch is the first selection”

Some kind of oreo channel support for live TV “not named plex, atleast plex-live tv” or something that makes it understandable for family and friends. Some upcoming programs with covers or DVR
