So the Oreo update for the Shield TV has rolled out and I had expected Plex to support “channels” in the Android TV Home launcher. However, it’s not showing up as a channel for me. I’m assuming that it should as I’ve seen others that have Plex showing up as a channel in the launcher.
I’ve currently tried everything, beyond doing a factory reset, to make it show up as a channel and every other app that supports channels haven’t been a problem. Any suggestions?

Yep, opened, uninstalled updates, disable/reenabled, cleared data. Like I said, everything other than doing a factory reset. If it weren’t a system app and could be uninstalled/reinstalled completely I would have done that.
Same issue here. Thought it might be because I didn’t have any local content on the Shield TV (use my pc as server), so I added content but still no luck. Hopefully this gets sorted out…this is the one channel that I would find very useful.

Factory reset didn’t work either. Bummer…
It was there for me after upgrading to 7.0 but since a factory reset it’s gone. Very odd
I’ve just managed to get it to show, not sure exactly which of the below steps did the trick but this is what I did
Force stop Plex client app
Disabled it
Cleared it’s cache data
Enabled it
Opened it & selected a managed user that has no PIN
Played a film for 5 minutes
Voila, it then showed in channels
Well, the 15th time did it I guess.
What I did was:
Disable Plex
Cleared data
Enabled Plex
Open it then relink
Played movie
As I said though, I tried numerous things multiple times and nothing worked…until it finally did.
I had to log in as Plex server owner / admin and play something before Plex finally showed up as a channel. After the channel showed up, I changed the logged in user to one of my Plex home users that has access to the same local Plex server. The Plex channel still shows up but it doesn’t show anything except for a generic Plex icon. Switching back to the owner / admin account and the channel shows things again.
So it seems you have to be logged as the owner / admin account for channels to work which kind of sucks.
I received and update on my Shield for Android TV Home and Core Services. After these updates the channel showed up but will only populate medial on my Shield TV server, not the server on my PC which is where I keep my media. Will have to look into this owner/admin log in thing.
Does anybody have the.channel populating from a server on a PC?
Update: turned channel off for a bit then turned it back on…and presto,a program is in the channel.
