Language Banners for Cover Art

If it is possible, it would be nice to have a small banner, much like the native orange dot or banner that allows one to know if a show has been watched or not, but in this case the dot or banner could be a different color based upon the language of the file. It would be nice to know which of the shows in my anime collection have English and which are only in Japanese. Just a thought. Thanks for everything you all do, I love Plex.

not covering for your specific request…
however you already can see this by filtering. One of the recent updates (Nov 2017 I believe) introduced filtering by audio and subtitle languages.

Thanks tom80H. I have been doing that, but I just did the change where I added both Anime Movies and Anime TV Shows into the same library, which is awesome, but it would simply be nice to quickly be able to tell which ones are in English or not. I have some series where I have older episodes in English and others in Japanese and I didn’t think it would be terribly difficult to allow a banner to be added of a certain color, then I could add Blue for English, for example, and Red for Japanese. Quickly letting me know whether or not I can watch every episode in Eng, or if I need to go out and “find” another copy somewhere that can be updated from Japanese. Again, just a thought. I appreciate all of the work people have thrown into Plex so far so I don’t want to sound ungrateful, just curious.

Thanks

How about little flags as indicators instead?
I’m struggling with the usability of having a colored icon and being required to map each of them to a language.

And yes… I’m aware that some languages are harder to match to a flag than others…

  • English — US, UK, Australia…
  • Spanish — Spain (most of it at least), lots of South American countries
  • German — Germany, Austria

Or going reversed…

  • Switzerland — speaking French, Italian, German
  • Canada — speaking English and French
  • …

Still I’m feeling more „connected“ with an actual visual

I would be great with flags, i just know currently they use the little orange dot or an orange triangle in the upper right corner depending on what you are using to watch it. If they could copy this but allow the user to customize in then you could have a little American Flag dot or triangle, so on and so forth. Regardless, it would be better than having to split libraries into two different folders.

I propose that Plex introduce a feature to overlay small badges or icons directly on the media posters, indicating the available audio languages (for example, English, Spanish, Russian, etc.). This enhancement would allow users to instantly see which movies or TV shows have additional dubbed audio tracks, without needing to navigate into each title’s details.

Key Points:

  • Automatic Detection: Plex should scan the media file metadata and detect all available audio tracks.
  • Badge/Icon Design: Small, unobtrusive icons (e.g., flags or abbreviated language codes) should be added to the corner of the poster. These could be optionally customizable in the Plex settings.
  • User Benefits:
    • Improves browsing efficiency by visually highlighting multilingual options.
    • Helps families and multilingual households quickly select media that meet their language preferences.
    • Enhances the overall user experience by reducing the need for users to click into individual titles to check audio options.
  • Implementation Considerations:
    • Integrate with existing metadata fetching processes so that updates happen automatically.
    • Allow for customization (e.g., enabling/disabling badges, choosing badge size/placement).
    • Use commonly recognized language icons or standard abbreviations to ensure clarity.
