Latest bugs of Plex "the crashy" android player

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1913
Player Version#: 7.22.1.12828
Platform: Sony Bravia TV

  1. Single jump (">>" = 30 seconds) does not work anymore. It does anything from 30 seconds to 8 minutes or uncontrollably running to the end of the video and then crashes the player.

  2. Played status counter does not update when “backing away” after viewing and/or deleting an episode. Each screen must be updated by “coming back” from somewhere else in a higher menu level.

PLEASE fix issues before frantically pushing out new features! I am sure the absolute majority of users would prefer a stable product over an ever changing one. Give your player users a beta program for those who want to be on the cutting edge of development and the option for stable releases for the majority of users.

In android the users typically opt to keep all apps up-to-date automatically to allow for security updates. Being forced to get all the alpha level bugs of the Plex player defeats the purpose.

… and one more addition:

  1. The player randomly stops in the middle of playing a video and after a few seconds the TV reboots. This happens at least once a day.

I’m sorry if I sound a little edgy - well I do. I’m sure the developers are doing their best and as a coder myself I understand that doing new things is way cooler than debugging.

That being said I do stand by the statement that the product is changing way too much and too quickly. The reason for me being miffed is because I don’t get the feeling that the developers really care enough about addressing the bugs created by rapid dev. If this is just the feeling I get and not the case then my bad.

… and as for the Sony android TV … to put it mildly: Sony is crap at android and buying that TV was my biggest mistake in home electronics choices to date.

@FiJeR sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems with the app. Just to confirm, the issues you are talking about are about the new player? If so, it was meant to be released as a beta opt-in, in order to let users to give it a go before releasing it officially. In 7.24.2, we’ve pulled it back in order to don’t cause problems to users (thanks for the feedback), so you should be able to use the regular one (which in theory shouldn’t have the problems listed). Is there any chance you can give it a go to that build when available? Hope it works great for you.
In any case, and in order to help use identify the issues, you could grab and post app logs following https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs.
Thanks

I updated the player to 7.24.3.13840.

  1. The jump now works and in first tests does not crash the player.

  2. Unplayed counter on the main level of shows still does not update after playing an episode.

  3. Has been running for a couple of hours only - so insufficient data to know if it still randomly crashes and reboots the TV.

Regarding logs: at this time I will not set any more tasks for the already sloooow TV. Thus I shall set them on only if random crashes still occur.

As for now only the (less important) issue #2 still remains.

Unfortunately issue #3 also remains. The player just froze and rebooted the TV.
