Latest Client Update Worthless

Server Version#: 1.15.1.710
Player Version#: 3.83.1
Alright. I’ve already been having trouble with a tablet that is constantly buffering every five minutes, but today there was an update to the player that has made the player utterly impossible to play through. Every five minutes, on any computer in the monastery, it buffers every five seconds, literally. We are relegated to using the web interface again. Not cool and wanted to let you know that this last update has destroyed our watching experience through the player. :frowning:

Which client are you referring to?

The Windows client. Not from the playstore, the one from the Plex website.

Well grab your hat your in for a ride! The Issue isn’t mainly with the newest PMP Client for Windows, as much as it is an issue with the Plex Media Server 1.14 to current build. With each new addition of what ever crap they are adding the Server software gets worse and worse, Ever since the newest update in Nov. 2018 The “Buffering Issue” comes and goes and Support/ Community can sometimes reproduce it and sometimes just blame us for something set wrong. Here is My solutions for what its worth:

Rollback or Install the older “Stable server and client” that was working fine and turn off Auto update and enjoy your experience…

Or…

Solution 2 is actually a 2 part solution…

Part A: Restart the OS the is running the PMP Client … about 30% of the time that fixes the issue… closing and restarting the client does nothing… hell you can even KILL all processes related to Plex and start it back up and it will still not help, but a clean reboot will…

Part B: If the above Fails then Close all plex Clients Restart the Computer Running your Plex Media Server (again restarting the software does nothing…), Then when the server has rebooted, Reboot all the Client devices that connect to it… (The issue with this is if u reboot the clients beforehand or fail to reboot them at all you will find yourself in Missing server/cannot connect to server/buffering/authentication Hell)

I hope this helps you on your journey to a working plex experience again that has been destroyed by all the new pay to win streaming crap being added to plex.

Sincerely a Loyal and Salty Lifetime Plex Pass Subscriber

What you describe is not something I’ve seen reported for PMP. Here are a few things you can try:

1 - Settings \ Video \ Hardware Decoding, try turning this off. Maybe your hardware isn’t able to perform this

2 - Setting \ Video \ Network Cache, what is this set to? If “tiny”, try turning it up.

3 - Settings \ Main \ Native OpenGL, try toggling it (i.e. if on try off, if off try on)

I wish that I could try those ideas, but there is no video on the settings and there is no native opengl in main settings.

I don’t think we are talking about the same client. Can you provide me a screenshot of what you see?

Ah, ok. That is the Desktop version of PMP. Switch to TV mode, make the change, and switch back.

Edit - Actually, can you try playback in TV Mode and see if you get the same problem. If so, then you can check just using TV mode. Switch back to Desktop mode after your testing if things are working.

Will do. Thanks for the idea. Never thought of TV mode.

Alright. So far so good on the TV mode, change settings, then back to regular desktop mode. I’ll let you know if it happens again.
