Latest iPad app incredibly slow

Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: 7.28.1

When opening Plex on the iPad, it takes about a minute or more for the app to register that I tapped the screen to select a movie or TV show to watch. Resetting the iPad does not help. Reinstalling the app does not help.

At the top left of the iPad screen, next to the Wifi status, the “loading circle” is continuously circling after I press to get to load the folder of a particular show or movie. I typically wait about a minute, sometimes longer.

Once playing the TV show or movie, I have no issue.

This has been happening since the latest update of the iPad app, no issue two weeks ago.

I have no issues on my laptop, desktop, Roku, or FireTV stick.

I am having the exact same problem on my iPad. It takes incredibly long for the Plex app to respond to anything. It looks like Plex broke the iPad app with the latest update, and they need to fix it.

I’m having the same problem. The Plex app on my iPad is unusable.

If you are able to get into the settings screens could you please upload some logs here so we can take a look? Instructions for getting logs are here iOS Logs | Plex Support

Same on iPhone as well. Most of the time
It’s freezing when loads. Can’t scroll up down or across. It then sometimes crashes and is the same when reloaded. Latest update

I have the same problem. It’s definitely an issue with the latest iPad app since when I run Plex in Firefox (on the same iPad) I have no problems with responsiveness. Also, no responsive issues in PlexAmp app. For me, the iPad app issues started right after the latest iPadOS update 15.3.1 today.

iPad (5th Gen)

Update: Delete app and reinstall. Worked for me, so far.

Note: I did not experience the endless Live TV pins as others did (or I just didn’t noticed them as I only use Plex for audio) but some of my own libraries were greyed-out. I discovered that if I waited long enough (10 minutes) they would eventually turn white. My guess is that the problem lies with the iPadOS 15.3.1 update and simply deleting/reinstalling the app will solve the problem. No need to remove pinned items.

My wife is having the same problem with our iPad Pro. Today when she tried to use it, it was unresponsive - literally taking 30-60 seconds per click to “do” anything. Selecting content and it just sat there and wouldn’t play. We didn’t think to share debug information, instead we uninstalled and reinstalled the app after rebooting the iPad. It seems to be working fine now.

However, the reason she just uninstalled and reinstalled is that she’s been having stability and slowness issues for over a month after using the app for more than a few days, even with closing the app on a regular basis. So there might be a problem with the app that’s been brewing for a little while.

Plex App 7.28.1
iOS 15.2.1
CentOS 7 Server Version 1.25.4.5487

Our Roku Ultra and Roku 3 Apps are snappy, Plex Windows App is still snappy. My phone also running same IOS is fine, but I rarely use Plex on my iPhone.

If it gets crappy and slow again I’ll have my wife inform me and upload logs from the device.

I couldn’t get to settings but I did notice an endless repeating of “Live Tv” in my sidebar which is strange because I only use the “Live TV & DVR” in my app. No idea where the endless list of “Live TV” came from….totally locks it up tho.

Slowness / hanging problem started with latest Plex app version which installed automatically on my iPad. It had been working fine before that. I did as some here suggested and uninstalled/reinstalled the app and so far it seems to have solved the problem.

I had the endless string of “Live TV” “Movies and TV from Plex” “Podcasts” etc greyed out in my sidebar too, and similarly it was causing an immediate freeze making it impossible to get to settings.

After many attempts I finally turned off my internet connection on my iOS and opened Plex in offline mode. This finally allowed me to reset the homescreen settings to default using the three dots in the top right corner. The second screen of that process allows you to reset the pins on the sidebar.

After that I reconnected to the internet and restarted Plex. It added a few of the Plex sources back to my sidebar, but I was able to edit and remove the ones I didn’t want without a problem.

I did this on bth my iPhone and iPad and both have been significantly more stable. Hope this can help others.

I think we’ve tracked this down thanks to some folks help.

In the mean time until we get a release out it sounds like either: starting the app with wifi/cellular disabled, hitting the … in the upper right hand corner, and restoring defaults, or, deleting the app and reinstalling, should work around the issue.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

The problem returned on my iPad again. I did notice the endless string of Plex “Live TV”, “Movies & TV”, etc. that some haved mentioned. I performed the “Retore Defaults” work-around suggested here and it seems to have helped for now. A bit annoying though because you have to re-pin and re-order your favorites. Any updates on when we can expect a fix?

I’m having the same issue on my iPhone 11 that was updated to ios 15.3.1. It appears to hang doing anything until play. Sometimes it eventually finishes and sometimes just permanent hang. If it gets to a stream then it’s okay.

I also have an iPhone SE still on ios 15.2.1. That phone loads quickly and normally.

@chfredrickson, any updates on when we can expect a fix? Seems like a significant bug that is impacting many people. There are many related posts on this issue.

It happened to me yet again last night. Going off line and restoring defaults helps only temporarily, maybe a day or two. I finally decided to stop re-pinning and re-ordering favorites each time as it’s just a waste of time, I lose all these setting each time I have to go through the temporary work-around.

@chfredrickson Had things slow up today. Had the repeats for the online content items (live TV, Movies and TV, etc.) - I attached a screenshot. I attached logs too. I know an employee above says they’ve found the issue but figured it couldn’t hurt to provide some info.

Any news on getting this issue fixed? Pretty annoying and clearly a widespread issue with people using iPads.

@chfredrickson is unresponsive, however, there is a new version of the IOS app in the App Store (v7.29) that claims to fix an issue with duplicate items in the sidebar. I manually installed it yesterday, and so far I have not seen any problems.

The latest update (version 7.29) has resolved the issue for me.
