I have 3 users with Samsung TVs. Most of the time they can play everything just fine. Sometimes, when direct playing something they would had faced issues so I would just tell them to disable direct play and let my server transcode as I have a powerful igpu. However, the past week or so with the latest update, all 3 have told me that many of my files now can’t be played. They get the endless loading circle.
I convinced one of them to enable debug logs on their samsung. I am attaching those. I have renamed the user as “user with problem”. I hope the logs can be helpfull, I can see a few lines that might so the reason but I am not sure. Unfortunately, I don’t have a samsung tv so I can’t run tests on request.
Hello,
I have problem after an update of plex. I think, it was plex player problem.
My problem , it doesn’t want load on direct on my samsung TV 2004 (not tizen). an mkv h265 on 4K.
Before its working great with this app. My tv with Video Station(synology) load perfectly all 4k video and DLNA to. mylog.txt (24.3 KB)
The issue still persists. Samsung TVs that my users have isssues with are 2018, 2019 and 2020. One user who has samsung tv 2021 seems to be fine with most files. I think the problem might be with transcoding. For some reason it doesn’t let the Samsung Apps transcode on the 2018-2020 models. Any ideas @sLumpy ? Would you like me to provide you with new logs or maybe some file samples?
My other devices are streaming without any issues , those include LG TVs, Android/iOs, Xbox, Playstation 4, Android TV, web app, desktop apps.
@Invisible_Plex_User New logs would be good. There was an app update today. Make sure your friend enables “Logging to server” and selects your server to write to in the Advanced setting of the app. ( Debug should also be enabled in the app) then they can reproduce,
Sounds like a cert issue. Check that the user set their Advanced setting for Allow Insecure Connections and Prefer Insecure Connections on their affected TVs to Always
I have renamed the user as user_with_problem . His logs start from Jul 28, 2022 14:55:17.669 onwards.
I am going to visit my other friend who has a Samsung 2019 TV (initial logs that I posted) and run the debugging again, but will probs show the same. The TVs can direct play items. However when they need to transcode they can’t playback anything. Once we click on play the app said playback error. an unexpected playback problem occured. This has been an issue since around late May. No issues beforehands.
Logs are looking like a cert issue. Is your server set to Preferred or Required for secure connections? It should be set to Preferred. Either that, or try generating new certs using something like ZeroSSL on the server and see if that helps. I think there’s some posts on the forums that describe how to do this.
Hi again. So I had a closer look at my certs and reverse proxy and read a few posts and eventually found 2 issues. One made by me. Both were resolved.
When the issue started I had moved from nginx to traefik. It only came to me after checking the certs. Samsung plex app updating at that time was just a coincidence. Sorry.
Anyway, the issue was the server transport for http router. It was making unencrypted connections https. So I disabled that and the samsung TVs connected great. However they would buffer a lot. Disabling GZIP Encryption fixed the buffering. I don’t even know why this made all the Samsung Plex apps buffer (Models 2018-2020). I did many tests and whenever Gzip encryption was enabled Samsungs would buffer after 30 seconds of playing an item. Any item. So maybe it’s a possible app bug? Dunno.
