When a show is getting close to the end the video is just in a small window with the text “Just played” next to it. That is fine when it’s just credits left, but when the show is still going on it’s irritating.
Is it possible to change this setting to let it play to the end?

Yes. I believe it is possible.
I don’t exactly remember where that setting is but I changed it so long ago that I don’t remember exactly where that setting is but, if you look around a bit in various settings you will find it.
A least I did change it successfully quite a while ago and I do not have Plex shrinking the ends of shows/movies or automatically playing anything after a video completes.
That is so intrusive and invasive that I think it should default to not shrinking and not auto-playing. But Plex knows better. It is the Plex way or the highway for users. At least they allow it to be returned to proper functionality.

reiko is referring to some new behavior linked to the introduction of “credit detection” and skipping credits. This hasn’t to do much on its own with auto-play.

There’s a feature suggestion where users ask for the big screen tv apps to offer a skip-credits button instead of dropping out of the video to the post-play screen.
Personally I feel it’s not that big of a deal – unless I’m running into a show that’s giving Plex a hard time detecting those credits (causing some bad results).

Oh. I did not know there was a “new” feature (bug) that forces credits to be skipped.
I would not use such a feature and I would automatically disable it if I discovered it.
Contrary to what Plex seems to believe I watch MY media, not Plex’s crap and I have no desire for Plex to do anything that gets in the way of that and offering to autoplay something or automatically shrinking something is getting in the way… Even offering content that is not mine is getting in the way. I did not ask for the crap but it still shows up. It should all at least be able to be disabled and, when added, it should default to off. I seem to spend a lot of time avoiding Plex’s intrusions.

Plex is rapidly becoming something I do not want if this kind of crap keeps getting added.
If I want credits skipped my fingers actually work and I can FF to the end or I can just exit playback and, if the credits are too long, mark the content watched with just a couple of clicks.
I do NOT need or want Plex to help me be lazy!

I will begin investigating alternatives but, for now, Plex does allow all the superfluous crud to be mostly disabled so that is a small plus.
I guess Plex lied when they said “Your media your way.” What they really mean is “Plex’s media Plex’s way., with just a little ‘Your media’ thrown in because Plex is always right.”

Oh well, this is what I should expect from a company that puts dollars (or Pounds or Yen or whatever) ahead of their customers.

Adding functionality is not bad but the way Plex usually does it is bad.

But, like I have said, I have Plex almost working as I want but the extra fluff still gets in the way.

I could be pretty content with Plex if I was allowed to completely disable all the stuff that is not directly related to my media.
I wonder if the alternatives put all the extra crap in its environment? I’ll have to check.

I have the following set:

Video played threshold: 95%
Video play completion behaviour: at selected threshold percentage
Marker source: local detection only
Generate credits video markers: never

Which combination of settings would allow me to watch as much as possible of all episodes without getting the “small window” before the actual credits start?
In a perfect world I would’ve liked a setting to play all of the episodes

These options refer to when Plex marks a video as watched and how credits detection works. They’re not impacting how the client behaves when the final credits segment starts.
Right now there’s no such option available in the client settings.

Came here to say that this new ‘feature’ is dumb and should at the very least have an option to turn it off.

I’m a grownup, I can decide when my show finishes. Don’t decide for me.

See https://support.plex.tv/articles/credits-detection and adjust the Generate credits video markers setting to Never.

Plex like to auto enable new features (a policy I personally dislike) so you need to disable it yourself if you want to remove it.

Already set it to never. No difference

You need to disable credits detection at the library level.

To add to what @pommesmatte mentioned.

If plex detected credits and then you disable the server setting for it, Generate credits video markers this will stop/disable plex generating new scans for credits however it will not remove an existing scan it done before you disabled it.

If you want these deleted you need to disable it at the library level and then run analysis on the media. That will inform plex to remove them. This is the same for intro detection.

I cannot remember if this is removed immediately after the analysis or if a butler maintenance task does it later. But removing at library level and a run analysis is certainly needed to fully remove it.

There (currently) is no need to remove markers though, because deactivating credits detection at the library level will disable skip credits, regardless if there are markers or not.
