LG 28TN515S: Plex is not reachable

Thank you so much. It’s working now, & as usual with computer glitches, what seemed an impossible problem was childishly simple, and I feel a fool! Anyway thank you for your patience

I managed to get the LG Plex clients working again by setting on the server:
Settings-Network-
Secure Connections-Preferred… Was Disabled

List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth - 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0… was empty. This might have to be a different IP range depending on your home network. It is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

hola, eso funciona para los servidores plex q estan en tu casa o misma area local, pero que pasa cuando te quieres conectar a un servidor q esta en otro sitio, no funciona, :frowning:

alguien sabe q ha pasado?

gracias

I would hope that Plex would release a statement, explaning to us as to exactly what is the reason for pulling all support for non-UHD smart tv’s.

Reading through the plex forums the story is not consistent, as I have read it’s due to:

  • Hardware limitations.
  • TLS (Transport Layer Security) limitations.
  • SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) limitations.
  • webGL limitations.

Wikipedia - Transport Layer Security
SSL 2.0 was deprecated in 2011.
SSL 3.0 was deprecated in June 2015.
TLS 1.0 was first defined in January 1999 as an upgrade of SSL 3.0
TLS 1.1 was defined in April 2006.
TLS 1.2 was defined in August 2008.
TLS 1.3 was defined in August 2018.

Looking at the LG webOS TV developer - Web Engine web page, I can see that webOS TV 1.x and newer all support TLS v1.2, and webOS TV 5.x supports TLS v1.3.

LG 28TN515S 28" Smart LED TV (FHD): webOS TV Version 4.7.2-5091001 (goldilocks2-gulaga).
LG 55UM7610PLB 55" Smart LED TV (UHD): webOS TV Version 4.8.0-52110 (goldilocks2-gyeongju).

My front room (UHD) tv works fine as expected running webOS TV 4.x
But my (FHD) tv does not work with that also running webOS TV 4.x

Is it really the difference between say webOS 4.7.2 and 4.8.0 or something else?

Come on Plex spill the beans and please kindly state exactly what it is and why 720p and 1080p smart tv’s are no longer supported.

You have to be kidding, they just stop supporting HD-TVs out of nowhere?
Just bought myself a new 32" LG TV a few month ago for my bedroom…

Coincidentally, right after clearing the DNS cache in my router the Plex app stopped worked, and I’ve spent hours trying to figure out why and getting it to work again, resetting the TV, the Router, setting up a brand new router (which I wanted to do anyways), without any success.
And in the end, it wasn’t even a fault on my side.

Quite a dick move, to be totally honest…

Ive followed these steps but still “Server Unreachable”

Secure Connections-Preferred
List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth-192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0

Plex server IP: 192.168.1.197
Tv IP: 192.168.1.137

Plex for LG: 3.13.28
webOS: 3.8.0

Plex Media Server: Version 1.20.3.3483

What am I missing?

Try changing the IP addresses that are allowed without auth on the server side to:
192.168.1.0/24

And try adding the server IP of 192.168.1.197 to the manual server entry in the TV app.

I would also reserve the Server’s LAN IP address(192.168.1.197) in your Router

There is also in the older Plex app settings / General ( scroll to the bottom). Here you can set settings for Allow insecure setting on Local network - Always, Fall back to insecure connections, if I remember correctly.

Added 192.168.1.0/24 to “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”

Added 192.168.1.197 to the manual server entry in the TV app.

Still not working.

This was after deleting tv app. Power cycling for 10 mins then reinstalling.

I would also reserve the Server’s LAN IP address(192.168.1.197) in your Router - Havent done this yet but have confirmed ip is still the same on the server.

“Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections - Always” Done this

Still not working. What else am i missing?

You have to sign out from your Plex account on the server,
The server needs to be on “unclaimed” state so you can access it by ip,
I have done this and worked,
But the problem is now i discovered that plex app don’t save the settings or the manual server, which means that i need to enter ip address manually everytime i open plex,
Another missing up from plex developers

Not signed in on the server…

Anything else?

I find it hard to believe its this broken

unclaimed so now no media can be accessed via laptop web app. Butt… still server unreachable on lg app.

this app is so broken

I’ve just done a very quick comparison between my two LG Smart TV’s
LG 28TN515S 28" Smart LED TV (FHD)
LG 55UM7610PLB 55" Smart LED TV (UHD)

May a suppose that the “movie and tvs” free stuff are creating serious problems about security!?!?!

I d0n’t like this free stuff… i don’t need them… please bring back my Plex!

Sadly none of the suggested solutions work for me.

  • Added the whole network and/or the IP of the TV to the list of devices that don’t need authentication.
  • Secured Connections: Preferred and/or Disabled
  • Logged out of the server
  • Restarted the server
  • Added the static IP of the server in the client (when trying to connect again, the app resets all the settings I’ve changed as well)

Soo… Anything else I could do to get this to working again?

I have a LG 32LM6300PLA, a TV that is roughly one year old! One fricking year! It’s total bullcrap to tie some “compatibility issues” or “security reasons” to the resolution of a display.

I was a big fan of Plex so far, but this decision has been some kind of nail in the coffin for me.
Glad I didn’t buy the life-long subscription yet…

If your LG Smart TV’s have a useable web browser it would be intresting to see what versions of TLS they all currently support, you can test this by pointing your LG Smart TV’s web browser to: https://clienttest.ssllabs.com

As you can see from my above post that both my FHD and UHD LG TV’s are TLS 1.2 compliant so in theory both TV’s should be capable of running plex, but as we have been told Non-UHD are no longer supported.

ok, this has nothing to do with lg tv, but with plex itself, I installed xplay on the same tv (with the same settings, network, server etc.) and the plex application does not work, but xplay works very well, so I think we have to wait for an update or something from the plex team, is there a way to report this problem to the plex team ???

LG 24TL520S, bought in December 2019. Plex worked perfectly all that time on it, until the last few days. I’m truly shocked at Plex’s decision to do this, and with no clear reasoning for it. Really not good enough.

I have just bought 2 LG TV’s for my kid’s bedrooms specifically as they have smart functionality and Plex. If this isn’t fixed it feels like a kick in the teeth.
