LG B3 (webOS 10.2.2) playback broken

Device: LG OLED55B3PUA (B3)
webOS version: 10.2.2
Plex Media Server: v1.43.0.10492-121068a07 (Docker/Linux)
Plex for LG app: 5.94.1 (5.4.0 on the lg manage app page)

Since my LG B3 auto-updated to webOS 10.2.2, playback fails on almost every attempt. All other clients on the same server (PS5, web, mobile) work fine.

Error in PMS logs (repeating on every playback attempt):

Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=10.2.2, device=webOS 10.2.2, model=OLED55B3PUA

LG_B3_webOS10_issue.log (7.9 KB)

This error first appeared in my logs on March 10 and has occurred 1,400+ times across my log files. Each occurrence is followed by a cascade of failures:

  1. FFMPEG starts with no quality level (no profile = no capability negotiation)
  2. Transcode session stops immediately with no valid session GUID
  3. Codec/hwaccel errors: No support for codec mpeg4 profile 15 and Failed setup for format vaapi: hwaccel initialisation returned error

The server has no basis for making playback decisions (direct play vs. transcode, codec support, etc.) without a client profile for webOS 10.x.

I’ve searched the forum and this specific version (webOS 10.2.2) doesn’t appear to have been reported before. Attaching a condensed log extract with annotated examples of all three failure patterns.

Is a webOS 10.x client profile on the roadmap? Any workaround in the meantime?

I checked my LG tv’s and they are all running 5.94.1
Something up try to update.

My mistake, the in-app version is 5.94.1. It was the LG manage app page where I saw the 5.4.0. Either way I am definitely still experiencing major playback issues when this version.

Some more things I’m noticing. I’m trying to launch a whole bunch of different media files with various video and audio codecs and I have noticed that any amount of transcoding requests triggers the error.

Also if you restart the tv and load content that can be fully direct streamed, it works fine. Once a transcoding request happens, even the direct stream stuff will fail too.

Is your TV accessing the plex server remotely by chance? I am trying to figure out if I’m having the same issue as you.

83 B5 on 10.3.0 is remote, not working
55 B2 on 10.2.2 is local, works fine

Getting same issue on 83 B4, and my 65 C4. I use unraid/binhex plex, latest, with intel 12700k QSV for transcoding. Had to reconnect my Roku to play anything…

yeah… I am getting

Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=10.3.0, device=webOS 10.3.0, model=86UA7700AUA.CUSYBH

Still looking for a fix.

See here for potential workaround

I’ve been experiencing the same symptoms for the past 10 days . Everything was working fine one day and the next day it stopped working. It occaisionally works and then just stops.

I’ve had to temporarily set up a streaming box to get plex to my C5 OLED.

Same messages in the log

Plex working fine on old LG TV, All android devices and some Samsung TVs

Plex Server: Version 1.43.0.10492

WebOS 10.3.0-1902

Software Version 33.30.92
3.94Gb Free internal Storage

Quick Start is turned off on my TV and even after a restart it still fails to play media

From the related ā€˜not playing thread’

Which was done on March 5

I’m convinced Plex dev’s just need to fix the device profile to allow more direct streaming on new WebOS.

I’m having the same problem with an LG CS. The problem seemed to begin around the time the Remote Watch Pass was supposed to be enforced, so I tried configuring the local server’s IP address as a manual server in the WebOS Plex App. It might just have been a placebo, but I was able to resume streaming afterwards.

  1. WebOS Plex App → Settings → Manual Servers
  2. Enter local IP address for your server.

Edit: Didn’t work for others apparently.

I tried this, no fix.

… as best I can tell… this was an LG firmware update problem. I have backdated the Plex Server up to 3 months with no resolution. When I looked at the date on the LG Plex App, it was released in September 2025.

My LG 86UA7700AUA currently has firmware version is 33.30.97.

Rollback of firmware on LG TV is not supported/available.

I think fundamentally this is a profiles problem. Plex has profiles for most devices and they’re OS specific so when LG updated their OS, Plex doesn’t see that the pre-made profile it has matches that combination of hardware and OS so it loses a lot of its direct stream capabilities and its forced to transcode which the TV is really really bad at handling.

I think the LG Plex app rarely gets updated via the LG App Store as it’s just a wrapper for a web app which is loaded dynamically from LG servers and can be updated silently. Also, they announce app updates in a thread which is linked to in an earlier post in this thread. Last one was a month ago and corresponds to when issues started. I last updated LG firmware much longer ago than this.

… the LG software on the TV which is a problem was released 03/04/26. My two other LG TV’s do not have this problem.

Date format? Anyway, my LG had been on 33.22.85 since Feb without an issue until the Plex app update.

Anyone know of anyway to get the attention of Plex support/developers on this issue? Seems we need some help.
