Recent upgrade to webOS broke client profiles?

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314 (Synology DS423+ running DSM 7.2.2-72806-1)
Player Version#: “Plex for LG, Client Version 5.90.1, Platform Version 9.2.1” (From within Plex app > About)
LG Model #: OLED65G2PUA

A few days ago I upgraded my TV to the latest WebOS (When i go to Settings > Support > Software Update, it says I have version 23.20.56 and can’t find any updates when I check)

I don’t recall experiencing any playback issues until last night - I was watching a tv show (Day of the Jackal S01E01) and it seemed to having some intermittent audio issues, like the sound would be really loud then go quiet, then get fuzzy, then repeat. Tested on other clients - as well as downloading the media file to a laptop and played with VLC - and experienced no issues anywhere else.

Today, it seems no media will play easily on the LG client. Everything starts with the buffering spinner (sometimes plays, sometimes hits the “unexpected playback error”) and i see these entries in logs, for any item i play:
“[Req#39b791] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS,
platformVersion=9.2.1, device=webOS 9.2.1, model=OLED65G2PUA”

I am thinking this could be related to the recent WebOS upgrade?
I am aware of some workarounds, for example optimizing media to essentially pre-transcode before playback time… Update: I ‘Optimized for TV’ the above media file (took ~30 min) and it played fine on the LG client, no buffering or issue.
So, it’s good to confirm the workaround, but I am concerned this is going to impact everything I try to watch through this LG TV, which is my main media TV.

Hoping someone has an idea for why this is happening and/or a fix :slight_smile:
If needing logs, please be very specific about what is needed and what steps to take - haven’t had to submit logs very often.

I am attaching some files from /PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Logs, after attempting to play a couple different media to no avail. I feel confident these are the relevant ones since they are the only ones updated in the past ~20 min since I’ve been testing :slight_smile: And i suspect the logs for the media server and transcoder may be relevant here.

I should also note before logging, I enabled an option I found on the Plex LG client settings under “Advanced > send to server” which had previous been disabled. Help text = “Send logs to Plex Media AppServer. When server is selected, logs are only sent for 8 hours”.
Set the LoggingLevel to Info.

Issue seems to have been temporary, as I was able to watch media without issue several hours later - so it would seem the LG client itself is not (wholly) my issue.
Maybe ephemeral issues with my home network? (plausible)

Hopefully someone more expert than I can review the logs to confirm my theory

happened again last night - am hoping someone can take a look at the logs and advise what may be happening, perhaps @ChuckPa ?

@bradis1

I’m actually looking at the LG client today. (I have a 48" C1 - 2021)

In simple terms I can understand, what am I trying to reproduce? :rofl:

all functionality seems normal until actually attempting to play content (movies or TV from my local server, didn’t try any other Plex things), then it just seems to spin, until timing out after maybe 30-60 sec with an “Unexpected Playback error” message.
See attached logs captured when this was happening.
It doesn’t seem consistent though, which is why I’m wondering if my issue could be about local/transient (network) conditions, not the client itself :\

@bradis1

Thanks for that log but it’s largely unusable.

  1. Transcoder logs don’t help
  2. You disabled DEBUG logging which hides everything it was trying to do.
    ( I only see INFO/WARN/ERROR )

Can you please enable DEBUG logging,
Restart PMS
Recreate

Download and attach the entire ZIP file (which will include the rollover PMS logs)

copy, if/when it happen again, will do this

Hi guys, I have a very similar problem.

Since a week ago or so, my Plex client on my main TV navigates fine, loads all the pictures and everything, but when I start to play a media, it just spins for around half a minute (sometimes the loading icon disappears for a second), and then says “Unexpectged playback error”. It does the same thing for different files, but it’s quite unpredictable, because sometimes it works only after 20 retries, but sometimes it just works for the first time.

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314-a0bfb8370 (Windows PC)
Player Version#: Plex for LG, Client Version 5.90.1, Platform Version 9.2.1
LG Model #: OLED65C21LA
WebOS version: 23.20.56

I also have an LG OLED42C21LA with the same webos and plex client version, and it never does this. Also, other clients (iOS app, browser) has no problem like this on the same network and server.

I’ve enabled debug logging on the server, and enabled client logging to the server as well, stopped the server, deleted all the existing logs, started it again, and launched the client on my 65", clicked on a media, and then the same error happened. Here is the whole log folder, hope this helps.
