I’m having the same issue as reported on Samsung smart TV’s (Can't play AVIs on Samsung TV Client 5.1.2) where my LG’s are suddenly unable to play avi files. When trying to play an avi file it gives me the following error: -
Playback Error The file associated with this item is not accessible by the server. Please verify that the file exists and that the necessary drive is available.
The same file plays perfectly with the iOS app and in browser. Reading through the Samsung thread linked above it appears to be affecting LG, Samsung and Android Smart TV’s so I’m guessing something in the base-code has changed instead of it being platform specific but obviously that’s just a guess.
Anyone know a solution or are we waiting on someone from Plex to acknowledge the issue and update the clients?
For what it’s worth I have just updated the server version to the latest release (1.20.5.3600) and rebooted the NAS… same error still.
I then tried leaving early access, reverting back to player version #4.29.9… and avi files work perfectly. So clearly something has been broken in v5.x
Thanks for the sample, there is nothing wrong with the file per se, but the app was forcing a transcode unnecessarily (and displaying the wrong error).
We have issues filed for both issues, but I hope to have the AVI issue fixed in the next release.

Hello.
Yesterday, I do an initialization of my Smart TV LG OLED65W9PLA and re-install all the applications.
Plex come with version 5.5.1. So I have the problem with .avi files but too I do not found any more the option “go back to the early version”. Any idea ?
As an other possible issue. I choose “Francais” as language but “setting menu” is always in english by sample.
Anything new that I’m adding to my collection is HEVC, but like so many others I’ve got a LOT of older content that’s still avi and I simply don’t have the time to or see any immediate benefit in re-encoding them all to HEVC.
It’s much better when helpful clever people like @markus101 and the team fix the bugs
