Server Version#: 1.30.2.6563
Player Version#: 5.1.2
Hi, it happens to me with all the movies or series that I try to play lately. I start the film in Direct Play and after a few minutes (can be 10, 20, etc), the movie starts to stop (like buffering), and I check the status of Plex and I see that it has started transcoding, when I had started the playback with direct play. The only solution is to stop the playback and push continue button, then I go back to direct play again until after a few minutes the problem occurs again.
My server cannot do transcoding so it is very difficult to watch a movie without cuts.
I have tried with several movies and series, all of them choosing AC3 audio to avoid transcoding problems and that all plays on direct play, but I find myself continually with this problem.
On the other hand, I have done more tests, for example using as Plex client the Xbox X series app, and it plays perfectly the movies without any problem, but I want to be able to play it with the TV app, and it’s strange since we are talking about a 2 years old TV.
Details of the server and client:
Server: HP Proliant N54L - Windows server 2012. Plex updated with the last version
Server Version#: 1.30.2.6563
Cliente: Plex app of the LG OLED 55CX.
Player Version#: 5.1.2 (last version)
Does this problem also start if you “just” watch the movie, or do you have some interaction before it starts (like pause/resume, fast forward/back, jump forward/back)?
What happens if you disable video transcoding in the server settings?
I’m seeing similar issue, however in the Plex server GUI it says the client (LG OLED TV) is only using Direct Play but my CPU is at 100% and the process using it all is “Plex transcoder”. This have not been an issue on earlier versions (a couple of months back or so).
Currently using: 1.31.1 on a Debian Bullseye 11.
This happens randomly, no matter if I have interacted or not. If it happens when I have interacted with it, it has not been the direct cause, at least not soon after I paused it, but after a few minutes.
I have now tried to deactivate the transcoding of the server, and what happens in these cases, is that the playback stops (it stays like buffering for a while) and then continues, but it interrupts the movie/series.
I can send logs without problems to the moderators, I have logs of the moments where the problem occurs, but I have not seen anything relevant, but the client is as if it stops playing in direct play and starts transcoding.
