LG WebOS 6 Server Unavailable

Plex Player Version#: 5.29.1
Plex Platform Version#: 3.9.0
LG WebOS Version#: 06.00.25

I have 2 remote servers I access through the Plex app on my LG TV. Both servers are unavailable when I try to connect which is a new issue. I read about the certificate issue affecting LG TVs running web OS versions under 5.0. But I’m running version 6 so that should be an issue right?

Well I changed the “Allow insecure connections” setting on the Plex tv app to “Always”, and now 1 of the servers can connect. The other still does not work. I confirmed that both servers are online and working from my Plex app on my phone.

Everything I checked is up to date. Is there anything else I can try? It looks like there might be a certificate issue on the new version.

I same…

are both server secure connections set to preferred? afaik WebOS 6 should work with secure connections though.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

After setting “Allow insecure connections” to “Always” on the plex tv app, the server that I can then connect to is set to “prefer” secure connections. The server I still cannot connect to is set to “require” secure connections. Again, this is a new issue that I noticed very recently.

I’ve gotten the same feedback from users using WebOS who are on WebOS version 5 and up. My server is set to require secure connections and I don’t intend to change that.

Same issue here. LG WebOS 5.60.15.

I can login however it can’t connect to my server. The server is on the same local network. It’s been working fine for years and has only stopped working this week. I’ve restarted everything. I’ve re-installed the app. Nothing has worked.

All other streaming services work fine on my TV. The Plex app is the only one that doesn’t work and is ridiculously slow and laggy.

What model TV are your LG TVs on? My C9 (WebOS 5.10.25) has this issue, but I know someone with a CX (WebOS 5.3.0-19) that can connect to my server no problem. So there may be an element to the age of the TV not just the WebOS version.

@TheMeanCanEHdian can you check what it says for Platform Version in Settings> About in the app on those two TVs

Sure thing.

C9 - 4.9.0
CX - 5.3.0

Thanks for this thread! Had a friend with this exact problem and followed the advice. I know this is a short term fix to tell LG tvs of some age to allow insecure connections. Had him delete and re-add the app to make sure he had the latest version, but it was the change in the LG settings that made it work again. Reported that it failed to connect one week ago. He discovered an LG update that coincides with the failure to connect. “Allow insecure connections: always” got him connected again.

LG 05.10.25
Plex player 5.29.1
Plex platform 4.9.0

2 of my users with LG TV’s are having the same issue and it started last week. Is an engineer working on a fix for this? Im not interested in allow unsecured connections as a bypass.

We are looking into it but I can’t promise an ETA. Part of the issue is the webOS version and the update variations of firmware that LG sometimes provides between regions. LG, I found out recently, is really confusing as well in that the platform version is the real Web OS version.

No problem. Thanks for the response. Was just looking to ensure that its being looked into

We are also having the same problem with our LG tv model 75K6500PTB
We are on OS 05.40.09

Just did a trouble shoot with LG and they basically gave up and told me to contact Plex.

Fingers crossed for a fix soon (please and thank you)

Please check the platform version in the about section of the app. you might be looking at the firmware version which is not the same as the OS version

About settings says - client version 5.29.1
And Platform Version - 4.4.0

My friend has an LG tv and didn’t do the most recent update and his is fine. He is on OS 5.20.07 He has turned his auto updates off for now

This is the web OS version.

Sorry I’m not very technically minded.

Does that mean there is any settings I can change or do I need to wait for your wonderful technicians to come up with the correction?

It means you are affected by this.

I realize the Nvidia/Plex issue is the largest issue at hand right now. Just checking that this is still an active issue that will eventually be worked on in the future? Or are you giving up?
