All streams get transcoded. Following information seen in playback information: Cannot direct play with protocol hls, codec: h264. Reason: Live TV direct play not allowed. App cannot direct play this item. Direct play is disabled.
Due to the transcoding high quality streams are freezing every 5 to 10 seconds making them not watchable.
Is there a specific container and codec of the stream to use? Currently supplied as mpegts, h264 results into transcoding.
Needless to say both direct play and direct steam are enabled in the app.
Have the same issue. It is strange, because on old plex app (LG WEBOS without GRID EPG) the same live streams worked without transcoding. It can be transcoded, but the deinterlace of transcoder is not working so picture quality is weak. Plase fix that.
Also having this issue on both my Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) TV’s.
Very frustrating it’s been 3 months since the initial issue was raised, on a feature which is solely for paid subscription users, yet there has not yet been a response from Plex.

Please, check below two pictures with playback information: first is from my Live TV provider (transcoded) , and second is from Plex Live TV - coming as part of the Plex Pass and direct played. I believe Live TV direct play is supported on webOS, but apparently not in all cases. Could you advise?
It’s supported for Live TV on Plex because everything either direct plays or doesn’t play at all, there is no server to deal with the transcoding.
Live TV from your PMS server will Direct Stream or Transcode, it will not be direct played, this topic is about this case specifically. For timeshifting reasons direct play is not supported on webOS.
Could you please elaborate what is the difference so that Live TV on Plex can direct play and the other (my) streams not? Does it depend on how are they encoded? As I can read the playback info what occurs is a stream copy, keeping h264 compression. Mind there is hardware support for h264 by the TV.
Furthermore, what would be yours (Plex’s) recommended way to watch high quality Live TV from my PMS server? Hardware transcoding on server?
Live TV & DVR is main reason why I pay Plex Pass monthly and currently this is a rather useless for me feature.
