LG WebOS Plex app drops subtitles intermittently

When playing movies/series with external (.srt) subtitles via the LG WebOS Plex app subtitles are dropped. It’s not very consistent but in the beginning of the movie/episode all seems OK but when progressing more and more subtitles are not shown.

When playing the same movies/episodes via Plex on FireTV or Xplay all works fine.

Yes, I have seen this in Forced English subs. I dismissed it as being poor subs but I have since seen it numerous times with forced English subs.

Same here, LG OLED B8.
‘Burn in subs’ solved it for me, but the server must be powerful enough to handle (I moved from a DS213j to a DS218+). However, since Plex now forgets any setting every time you exit the app, you need to re-activate ‘burn-in’ EVERY TIME you start… very annoying combination of bugs.

@SE56, I don’t think I ever used the “forced” option for subs. So for me it occurs with all .srt subs.

@theo_mattaar_com, burn in subs leads to recoding and my Synology DS216+ can’t handle that :frowning: and it shouldn’t be necessary to use this as a workaround.

I’m also impacted by this problem: sometimes the subtitles are not displayed.
After several reads of the same file on WebOS, it is not always the same subtitled sentences that do not appear.

When I watch the same file from the Plex app on iOS, the subtitles are displayed all the time.
In my case, the subtitles are directly integrated into the video file (not a .SRT file).

This problem has appeared since I updated the application (4.3.0) on my TV (OLED55B7V - webOS 3.8.0).
For French people, it’s impossible to watch series with Plex on TV because we look at them with subtitles…

Anyone know if we can go back to the old version of Plex on webOS?

Just updated to latest plex on my LG tv (webos4) and I’m having the same problems :expressionless:

Tip: found an alternative app in the lg store, XPlay, works fine there.

Same problem here. I would love to hear some devs opinion about this. I can provide logs and testing if necessary since it’s hard watching anime without the subtitles.

I can confirm the same issue. Have an LG OLED W8 with the update from august 18th I recall.

Also having this issue.

Frequently missing random subtitles lines on LG WebOS. If I pause and scrub back a bit, I can get occasional success of getting the line to show up, which suggests the subtitle file is actually fine - and that it’s the player having the issue.

The content is in 4K, so I have no hope in hell of my server burning subtitles in!

Tried XPlay, but it doesn’t play any video :frowning:

I’ve just installed the 1.17.1.1713 version on my Synology NAS and will be testing the subtitle issue over the coming days and will keep you posted. Not sure if it will fix this particular issue since I’ve only experienced it on the LG WebOS player and not when using Xplay or the Plex app on my Fire TV’s, so not sure it is a server side issue… Anyways, it’s worth a shot…

I have tested the server beta for subtitles and can confirm this appears to have worked! Watched just over 2 hours of content with subtitles with no issue :slight_smile:

I’ve been running the 1.17.1.1713 on my Synology NAS for 2 weeks now and the subtitle issue has definitely improved. Very occasionally I notice a subtitle missing, but to be honest I haven’t checked yet whether is is Plex skipping it or the subtitle file being incomplete. I’ll try to have a look at this the coming days.

I’ve installed version 1.17.0.1841 on my Synology NAS and nothing has change: I always have missing subtitles… :confused:

The fix is in 1.17.1. More fixes in 1.18.0. If the Synology store doesn’t have these versions you can upgrade manually or wait for the store.

i cant install 1.18 but in the 1.17 nothing has changed. same problem as before
