I’ve been using the Plex app on my LG Smart TV (with webOS) for a few years now with no problems at all. A few days ago, I started to see this message EVERY TIME I start the plex app on the TV:
I do not have a problem with apps loading slow on my FireTV, my Android Phone, my various Rokus or the Windows desktop app and I did not have a problem like this with the LG Plex app until the past few days. I have tried the “Clear Settings and Restart Plex” option, but that did not improve anything and, in fact, I saw the message a second time after trying that option. Normally, a minute or two after choosing the “Restart Plex” option, the Plex app will finally start to load.
Other than Windows (which I keep up-to-date), Plex Server (which I also keep up-to-date), and possibly Plex App on LG (which might update itself – I do not recall updating it manually) updates, nothing else has changed. My network is all still the same as it was before the LG Plex app got slow.
When I searched for “LG app slow” I found quite a few closed threads from years past, so apparently this has happened before. Unfortunately, there was no resolution other than “closed for inactivity” on the threads I read about this. Has this issue ever been resolved? Why am I (or might I be) seeing it again now?
This is really, REALLY, REALLY annoying.
Oh, no other apps on the LG are showing anything like this and the Plex app itself appears to work fine, once it decides to actually start up. My guess is that it is “phoning home” for some reason and holding me up as a result, even though I use Plex strictly for accessing my own local server ONLY and will NEVER use Plex to access any on-line services – at least intentionally, it looks like external sources are slowly being “blended” into our local content in ways that make it tricky to be sure which is which sometimes. Ahem. Sorry for the frustrated rant about the boat load of crud that Plex now carries, apparently to add more opportunities for bugs like this without adding any value for users like me. Sigh.
Once again, does anyone know of a solution for the geologically slow Plex LG app startup and, if so, will you share it with me? Please?
