Player worked fine earlier today. Now suddenly the player app wont work. I tried the clear settings & restart. I unplugged the Tv for a minute. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app.
Syntax errors on the screencap below.
Other Plex apps (web browser, Android) work fine, so i don’t think its a server issue.
Also other steaming apps(hulu discovery+) on the tv seem to be working as normal also.
Having the exact same problem today on my LG. Working fine last night.
When I first launched plex it was fine but would not start a show. I tried various shows and nothing would play. After checking for updates etc… did a factory reset on the TV, re-installed the plex app and it won’t load. I’m seeing the same screen as the first picture above.
It’s working fine on the TCL cheapo tv downstairs.
Ok so over the last hour, Plex has decided not to load at all on my LG CX or My Bedroom LG C6 running the latest Web OS and Plex version on the tv, I have changed no settings but everytime i try to load up plex im greeted with just a black screen.
Im on the latest server version too and im running my server through my PC.

As of today, 26th of June 2024, I am unable to use the Plex player that is on my LG CX55. It has worked pretty much perfectly for the last two years but as of today it does not appear to be working anymore. The only thing that appears is the splash screen that displays when opening an app on the TV, but besides that nothing appears. Not even the animated splash screen that usually appears right after the static one. I am trying to get some logs from my TV to see what might be going wrong, but until then I would love to know if anyone here has had a similar experience.
Troubleshooting steps I have already tried:
Fully stopping the app and reopening
Full reboot (not just sleep mode)
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app
There was an issue with the cache on Plex servers, which should now be resolved.
You’ll need to fully quit the app, not just switch to another app.
If you cannot do that, then power cycle the TV - remove from power, don’t just turn it off.
Basically, you need to flush the app from the TV’s memory. That will force a reload when you launch it again. An uninstall/re-install will work as well, but you shouldn’t have to go that far.
Specific to today’s problem: I messaged one of the Plex devs. He said there had been a problem in their backend servers. They had already noticed & fixed it when we traded messages. Fully exiting and relaunching the app would resolve things.
There’s several ways to fully exit the app:
Press the exit button to back out all the way (this was not working today on my LG).
Power cycle the TV (remove from AC power, don’t just turn off)
Launch other apps until the TV has to free up memory and dumps the Plex app (Laborious, but technically possible).
Uninstall / reinstall
Probably others (if the TV has a restart option, like rebooting a PC).
How the Plex LG app works (also applies to Samsung, Vizio, others):
When you install the Plex app from the LG store, it does not install the full app. It installs a bootloader version.
When you launch the Plex app, it checks in with servers at plex.tv. On first launch, it downloads the full version of the app. On subsequent launches, if there is an update, it automatically downloads the update.
The problem today was that the check-in process did not work, so the full app never launched.
After Plex cleared up things on their end, the app had to be fully exited on the TV. Doing so restarts the check-in process the next time the app is launched.
