I was having issues with my 2010 Mac Mini so decided to wipe it clean and start again. I followed the backup process detailed for Plex so I could restore my library.
Once i’d finished restoring everything when I installed Plex Media Server and opened it in Safari like I normally did, none of my libraries appeared.
I also downloaded the Plex Media Player as I use the Mac Mini attached to my TV so use it as a HTPC. When I opened the PMP I can see my libraries fine and it all works as normal.
Is there something I’m missing where I can see my libraries within PMP but not under the server in Safari?
I’ve tried to search for the issue but it’s hard to describe
Are you by chance using different Plex accounts?
This could explain why your server (linked to account A) will not show if you attempt opening it in Plex Web (using account B).
If you’re using the same account… do you get the same on/off experience when opening your server using the bundled version of Plex Web (e.g. using http://127.0.0.1:32400/web from a browser on that very same Mac; http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web from a different machine inside your home network).
I think they are the same account as I only have 1. It only started after trying to restore the backup… I will have a look at your suggestion when I get home, thanks for the reply
I uninstalled everything and tried the backup again and it worked. I believe the issue was that I copied and overwrote the 'Plex Media Server folder in here /Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/.
The 2nd time I deleted the folder after installing the server then placed my backup folder in it’s place and it worked. I assume something happened when merging the files. I missed the note in this article (Move an Install to Another System | Plex Support) to ‘replace’ the folder. Might be an idea to note to delete the ‘Plex Media Server’ folder completely before replacing it with the backup?
