I am completely confused and have not found any forums on this one. I have a Library setup with a little under 3000 movies on it. Apparently when I set up the library, the mp4 movie files where created as both a Folder and Movie. I have been editing the Title, Sort Title and Original Title within the file assuming that was the way to organize and store.
I just discovered that there is also a movie file and now I have 3000 movies to edit so when I search it looks nice. I have added pics to show you what i am explaining.
Is there any way to auto update the title and sort title in Movies if I already updated it in the Folders files? Also, should I even have folders built?
Movies are the easiest to organize and you should not have to edit the title, sort title, original title most of the time. The movie database should pick up the movies and year when scan.
All you really need to edit is the movie file which should look like this Name Of the Movie (Year).ext
My movie library consist of 26 folders, plus 1 folder for #. Each of the folders is label with the alphabet. The movie files will go in their correct folder.
Edit the library, go to Advanced, DISABLE: Use collection info from The Movie Database.
Those items you see with 1 Movie within are Collections with only 1 Movie in them, stupidly generated by The Movie Database via the default Plex setting in the Libraries Advanced Section. Once disabled you will need to Deleted those Collections - hit the pencil ON THE COLLECTION - select Delete.
Also do this under all tabs for Shows and Movies to prevent embedded Title Field’s in MP4/M4V files from borking your matches and adding bogus names:
Move Local Media Assets to the bottom of the stack of active agents under ALL Tabs in Shows and Movies (Settings/Agents):
Red: Where it was
Green: Where it goes
(Drag and Drop)
Refresh Metadata should repair things afterwards, but if not a Plex Dance will:
Your individual movies should be in a folder - named exactly like the movie - with a proper movie file name:
A Movie Library Folder/
...47 Ronin (2013)/
......47 Ronin (2013).mp4
(for instance)
or, at least it’s not a bad thing if each movie is in it’s own folder, inside the Movie Library Folder. As your library grows you will wish you have them all in folders. Best to start now.
The reason is: if a Movie is in it’s own folder and nothing changes within it’s folder, it’s excluded from a scan. If you can exclude 10 thousand Movies that haven’t changed in a scan - you can save a LOT of time on a scan…and a LOT of wear and tear on the equipment (and your sanity)…lol
