As of a few days ago Plex only shows my Collections and not my Libraries. If I try to add a library, the media, if it is a File is Greyed out, if it is a Folder it shows up. I have changed the permissions and still the files are greyed out.
I can go to the Collections and select a movie and it plays. I also can search for a title and it finds it and plays.
Maybe worth noting, I recently installed Windows 11.
Thanks for asking. I am unable to add any file (Movies etc). But if it is already in a folder I can add it.
If I try to make a new folder and add a file it is greyed out as well.
If I search manually for a movie that was added, it finds it. However the Library tab shows nothing available. If it is in a Collection, it can be found
You don’t need to add individual movies to a library.
Instead, point your library to one (or more) top-level library folders which contain the movies to be added to your library.
Example
P:\
Movies
Top Wing
Top Wing.mkv
Trolls The Beat Goes On
Trolls The Beat Goes On.mp4
Wild Kratts
Wild Kratts.avi
Zoboomafoo
Zoboomafoo.ext
...
In this example, you should add P:\Movies\ to your Plex library.
Plex will then scan the entire folder for movies.
You should take a look at how your media is organized as Plex will not deal with different media types in a single library. You e.g. cannot mix tv-shows and movies – if you do, Plex will either ignore the files or fail to match them.
I am not adding movies to an individual Library, they are being adding to the Top Level Library Folder. I have had my Server for some years now, but something has just happened in the last couple of days that I no longer see the Library in Plex.
It is there because all of the movies show in the Collections if they are tagged as such. But nothing shows under Library.
Ok.
The fact that the individual movies show inside the Add Folder dialog means Plex can see the files – the files being greyed out only means that you cannot actually select files.
Do you see the same issue in other Plex apps (e.g. on your mobile or using Plex HTPC)?
You could try resetting the web app defaults to see if this gets the browser version back into order (Settings > Plex Web > Debug > Restore Defaults).
Do you happen to have that movie in multiple libraries which are all configured to show on the home page?
That doesn’t yet explain the 4 (or more) versions in Recently Added in Movies but it could explain the multitude of “clones” in Continue Watching.
Beyond that… you have a bad case of database corruption.
You can attempt to repair it or at worst restore a backup (if you have one).
Try repairing the database first. If that doesn’t work, you can try to restore a backup. Personally I think it makes sense to check how old that last backup is (Plex stops adding new backups if it recognizes the database has been corrupted)… if they’re super old it might be easier to spin up a new server.
