Library Management Question?

I’m stuck with what I assume was a procedural problem, and hoping to get some insight as to how to fix it…

I’ve started ripping 4K versions of the greats: LotR, The Hobbit, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. I wanted to keep the 4K separate from the 1080p so I created a 4K library folder and have dropped the movies into that folder and they do indeed show up in the 4K folder/library…but also they are in the main movie library and they are seen as “duplicates” and I’ve split them apart.

How do I stop the 4K rips from showing in the normal movie library? Is it a setting that I’m missing?

Look at the path defined for your libraries
Is the 4K perhaps buried below the path for the regular movies, or does the lib for regular movies have both paths defined?

I think I get what I messed up…once you phrased it like that it makes sense what I’m seeing.

Here is how the movie folder is laid out:

Here is the “White River Movies” paths…

And here is the path for the 4K movies…

I’m assuming what I need to do is move the 4K Movies folder up 1 level in the file structure so it’s on the same level as White River Movies and then the 4K movies would only show from the 4K folder and the 1040p would be in the main movies folder?

Well, first of all one thing!

I see in your screen capture, that some path include CodexPack which sooner or later will cause problems!

So, do NOT store your medias in the multimedia folder, if only used by Plex

Ref: Qnap faq.....read me first! Q14

And regarding your problem, I guess you found your problem

When all above is said, I fail to see why you created different top directories, like Horror , Fiction and so on?

I would leave that to Plex

How to proceed:

Start by making sure that PMS doesn’t auto update

So I suggest you create a new share in QNAP QTS, and name it like Medias
Below that, create a directory named Movies as well as a Directory named 4K Movies

Then add those paths to their respective libraries, and do a Scan Library files on them all

After doing that, PMS now knows that an additional directory has been added to your Libraries

Then in QTS File Station, move all your 4K movies to the new 4K directory
Now on your 4K library, remove the path to the old directory, so only the new fancy directory is present.
Do a Scan Library files on all libraries again, and confirm on a 4K movie in the regular movie library, that it now shows as unavailable, as well as in your 4K library shows two files, and one is not avail.

If above, do an Empty Trash on your 4K library, and that should be fine. ( If posters or external subs are missing, do a Refresh Metadata on the Library )

Then on your regular movie directories ( Fiction, Horror etc. ) move them all to the new movies directory, and repeat the procedure

I have them broken down by genre in the file structure for backup purposes. Each one goes to a different backup device on eSATA so I now have 3 copies of everything in case of some catastrophic failure. I have external SATA drives where I copy the files to after uploading to the NAS and I then copy them to a second set of USB backup drives.

I’ve got over 1500 movies so far, and 45 television series with hundreds of episodes per and don’t want to be forced to rip everything again if I don’t have to

I guess I can do a little maintenance tonight…thanks for the direction.

Well, I learned the hard way, that a movie might have more genres

So going down that direction, I would instead just create directories like a-d , e-h and so on, and put the medias in there ordered by their title, but then again, just me

Ohh… And adding here…

In the library, you NEED to add all sub directories as separate path, or the scanner/agent might run into issues sooner or later!

Nested directories besides those mentioned in the naming guide is NOT recommended

I’ve had that suggestion from one of my co-workers. If I’m going to make a change I might as well do it full scale.
