Seperate 4k Library?

I have a few 4K UHD Movies I’ve done and put in a separate folder. So my structure looks like:

Media --> Movies --> UHD Movies --> Title
                 --> HD Movies --> Title
                 --> SD Movies --> Title

Before in my Movies Library I had all 3 folders in there. I’ve since I wanted to have a separate 4K Library so I removed the UHD Movies folder from the normal Movies Library and they still show up. I’ve tried moving the directory in and out, but that hasn’t helped and the 4K movies still show up in the movies folder, even though the path is gone. I’ve tried re-scanning the Library but that didn’t help either. Is there something I’m missing?

This is a maddening bug with Plex - that it isn’t more proactive about updating previously-known entries, even after they are completely removed from that library.

First off: I assume you’ve separated the paths for each Movies library, specific to their path in your file system - one pointing to Media/Movies/SD Movies, one to Media/Movies/HD Movies, and one to Media/Movies/UHD Movies (effectively correct?)

To get Plex to kill off the now-obsolete entries in your (existing) “Movies” library, and allow you to focus on them only in your (new) “UHD Movies” library, you’ll need to do The Plex Dance™.

Some details here - but in effect:

  1. Remove TV Show/Movie from Library folder
    Move to temporary folder, or similar; somewhere outside of known hierarchy, where it can’t be “seen” by Plex
  2. {specific Library} -> Scan Library files
  3. {server} -> {manage server} -> Empty trash
  4. {server} -> {manage server} -> Clean bundles
    For more details on the Scan library files, Empty trash, and Clean bundles actions, see: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions
  5. Bring names and structure of local media assets into compliance
    Focus on desired Name, Show Title, Season, etc. - and ensure you are adhering to the expected nomenclature for Movies and TV Shows
  6. Replace the corrected TV Show/Movie back into your Library folder
    In other words, move your entries back into the expected hierarchy location
  7. {specific Library} -> Scan Library files … once again

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.

NOTE: The following data is lost when you do the Plex Dance (not comprehensive; there may be more…)

  • Any custom edits you’ve made to an item (tags, ratings, labels, etc.) is lost
  • Any tracks you’ve added to a Playlist will be removed from the Playlist
  • Play history is lost
  • ‘Date Added’ is changed (to the newly-scanned date; i.e. “just now”)

To make sure I understand, is this correct?

In Plex you have two Libraries, right?

Movies, with two folders:
Media --> Movies --> HD Movies
Media --> Movies --> SD Movies

UHD Movies, with one folder:
Media --> Movies --> UHD Movies

You definitely DON’T have Media --> Movies in ANY Library, correct?

Yup, that’s correct @Volts setup just like that. I’ll try @CyborgOne’s suggestion and see if that does the trick.

Okay, so I think I did have a Media --> Movies folder in there that I just flat out missed looking at it before. I got to step 3 before it pretty much took out all my collection tags for my sets an obviously re-scanned it. My folders in the Library path were acting funny cause they just flat out disappeared, so maybe that’s why I didn’t see it before. But after re-adding my Collection tags back in, now everything seems to be working as expected. Think it’s just more Plex bugs there? Anyway, thanks guys appreciate the help.
