Library media keeps reappearing in "Recently added" and losing "sort by" info

Server is running on a lenovo S30 windows 10 and the media is stored on a netgear readycloud NAS connected via cat6.
I have struggled with this issue on and off for about 3 years now (and based on the forum reporting it has been an issue for many people for many years now). In general, movies are randomly reappearing in the recently added string and when the do they loose any custom “sort by” naming that has done within plex. So far this has been a mild irritation as it only happens to 5-10 titles at a time and then it doesn’t happen for a month or 2. but the last occurence (20 days ago) was 400 titles and then it happened again (5 days ago) and it was nearly 1000 titles. As it is that my wife is the one who usually puts in the “sort by” info lets just say that I have gotten an ear full. I have spent the last 5 days searching the threads here and have found a few fixes but due to this happening randomly I don’t know if the fixes are going to work.
Things I have done based on forum content:

  • unchecked the “empty trash after every scan”
  • checked the “Scan my library automatically”
  • unchecked the “Update all libraries during maintenance” under scheduled tasks

I am currently attempting to recover the “sort by” data from a backup from the scheduled task but the instructions for it on this:

are a bit over my head. So I am going to ask an IT friend for help with it. Anything else you all know I should do?

update: so I am guessing that I waited too long to run the “repair from backup” since it didn’t work at all. Is there a way to “save as” a backup manually to a location once I get most everything renamed (should this be its own topic?)
