Library off a SMB share directly?

Hi,

AFAIK, Plex doesn’t support a SMB share directly. So don’t understand… why isn’t Plex adding this basic support when there are media players support it and some in the inception itself ?

Plex has never done that.
… and with all the requests stacked up like cord wood with no audible response, other than crickets, I’m gonna say - Not Coming Soon.

If you need to go somewhere else for that - better do so.

It’s a bummer for not having such a basic feature. Not sure what’s stopping Plex to incorporate it at the server end at the least.

Just mount that SMB share of yours on the machine hosting your Plex Media Server and point your library to a folder on that drive.

Plex Media Server runs on Linux/Mac/Windows. All three can mount SMB shares.

Why add it at the application level when the OS already handles it?

Just did this on my linux server. It’s kind of a pain, unless you have some saavy around the command line. And the syntax around CIFS in /etc/fstab has got to be crazy precise, otherwise you get permissions errors. I also wish PMS was able to do the heavy lifting with this. But then again, I also get that every feature you add creates a potential point of failure. This is a “nice to have” feature, but not a “need to have”.
