Library on NAS won't update automatically

I’m using Plex Media Server on an old 2010 Mac Mini, with a Synology DS412+ NAS for storage.

This Plex support article states that “Update my library automatically” won’t always work when my files are on a NAS:

Note : In most cases, this should work for content on local filesystems. It will generally not work for network shares mounted via SMB, NFS, AFP, or similar.

Is there any workaround to this? The "generally not " description gives me hope that I won’t always need to manually scan my library after adding media.

Just set an hourly or daily scan to pick up new stuff. If you using sickchill or couchpotatoe you can also use the notify agent.
