No logs are attached because this problem happens on any server.
I didn’t use Plex for a long time because I’d install the package, add a library and add my folders, but nothing would happen.
It’s as if Plex didn’t find any of my shows or movies.
Eventually after scouring forums I figured out that you have to grant read permission to the folders you add to Plex, using DSM’s file permissions management console.
My beef is this: It seems like it would be trivial to just pop up a message in the Plex UI and say “hey, I couldn’t access this folder. Maybe you should check if you granted permission to Plex.”
Instead of just silently not adding any items from the folders requested.
Or at least give the user some kind of heads up while they’re installing the package that folder permissions need to be granted.
You wouldn’t even need access to system-level errors.
To put it simply: If the server scans all the folders the user provides and finds zero files, maybe make some suggestions on how to fix that?
For example, a notification at the end of the scan could say something like “some operating systems require you to grant folder permission to the Plex server before Plex can find files in them. If none of your files are being added to the library, check that Plex has been granted access to your folders.”
