I clicked Scan library on one of my libraries today and its shown as an activity all day. Won’t complete even though the only changes made to that library are showing and available to watch in the library itself.
It seems to be stopping me adding a new library and also stopping me editing some of the meta data from items in other librarys which is frustrating, anyone ever had this?
Fixed it, well i say fixed it. I had to shut down the NAS and when it rebooted the task had cancelled and allowed me to edit and add new content again. Incase anybody has the same issue some time.
This problem is not related to the initial thread starters question, but this seems to be the closest thread to my problem without starting a new one.
My issue is, that the plex scrapers leave literally hundreds of errors and mis-tagged files when identifying media in my library in spite of me meticulously tagging every entry correctly with the correct meta data including cover art in the folder. The work that I would have to go through to identify and fix all these errors is not worth using the platform or buying a “Plex Pass”. The error rate is absolutely horrible. Not only is the error rate high, the processing of my vast library is horribly slow. I know that my meticulous efforts updating the meta data of every entry puts me in a minority, and there may not be a work around.
In spite of the issues, I like the graphic presentation, and the ability to cross reference information and index the results based on the tags in my library data base.
My question is can I scan in my library based SOLEY on local information, and meta information stored in the tags or file folders. Each Movie is stores in an individual folder with a "Folder.jpg file in each one. My TV series are in a series folder broken down by season folders, and episodes in each season folder.
IE: C:\Users\User\Documents\TV Series\Series title\S01\Series Title - So1e01 - Episode Name
Most of my TV series contain complete meta data for every episode stored in the tags. I would like to retrieve the folder info displayed based on the folder.jpg file stored in the parent movie or season folders and not rely on any other scrapers. If the local data is unrecognizable, I would rather skip the meta data that file rather than even try to look anything up, and simply add the Movie/Show to the library using the local file name. Finding the entries in the library with skipped meta data would be easier for me than trying to find the hundreds that were mis-labeled and tagged wrong.
Note: I also find correctly locally tagged TV series episode files mis-identified and scattered across the library as movies. I have a separate folder for TV series and identify it as such in Plex.
Since 1.28.1.6018, I am finding that manual scans have suddenly taken a much longer time to start, and complete. I’ve restarted PMS but still having this issue (my libraries are on a Synology RackStation RS2212+ with DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 6).
Yes, absolutely. Here is the official guide. But I have a doubt, this will help your situation. The issues you are having are caused by the improper naming of TV Shows/Movies. Did you follow the naming scheme?
There are two things that should be taken care of if you doing the automatic scan.
Disable the “Use Local Asset” and “Prefer local metadata” in the library’s advanced settings.
Set the “Local Media Assets” agent to the lowest priority for each library type.
Use the Plex Movie agent/scanner for movies and the Plex TV Series agent/scanner for TV Shows. The other agents and scanners are legacy and are not receiving any updates, bug fixes, etc.
With these agents/scanners, preferences are set on a per library basis. The settings in Settings → Agents are only for the legacy scanners/agents. They have no effect on the Plex Movie and Plex TV Series agents/scanners.
Verify the mis-identified files are named and organized as TV shows, not as movies, and follow the Plex naming conventions mentioned above.
Verify the folders added to your various libraries. Make sure you have not inadvertently added a TV show folder to a movie library or visa-versa. Plex does not support mixing TV shows and movies in the same library.
Look at the Get Info for each mis-identified file. Verify that it is in the correct location.
Thank you for your reply. I will try that. I DO have a few series from when I first started that do not follow the proper naming format. I know which ones are mislabeled and have shoved those into a non scanned directory. I’ll have to correct those when I get one of those Round Tuits, The mislabeled series are put into folders by Disc and Season. They not only have to be renamed, they have to be put into the same directory format as the rest of my library. If I find an error in a mislabeled series, that’s easy to spot when I investigate, and my own fault for not catching it. The ones in question however, ARE correctly named. One thing that you mentioned that I have not checked, is that the Type flag is set to TV in all of my tags. I guess that I have relied on software to set the proper type when I scrape the Meta Data. This is going to be VERY time consuming; even checking whole seasons at a time. I also have not disabled “Use Local Asset” not Set “Local Media Assets” to the lowest priority. It seemed counter productive, when I want to use ONLY Local Meta Data. I will try that though.
Thank you very much for your reply. If this works out I will be probably wind up purchasing a Plex Pass.
