Library scan "loses" media, metadata refresh "finds" it again

I am experiencing a strange issue, don’t remember when it started. I have a library for dual audio anime shows, and when i add new shows and run the full library scan for Plex to find it, the first scan won’t. What it will do is (seemingly) randomly stop seeing shows that have been there for a while and they get the trash can icon over them and become unavailable. If I run a Refresh Metadata on the library, no change. If I select only the ones that are now unavailable and then select Refresh Metadata, only then do they reappear as available again. I have my default view as Last Episode Date Added, most will stay where they are, but some will move to the top of the list. If I try to rescan the library again after that, THEN my new show is discovered.

None of my other libraries, whether TV or Movie, exhibit this behavior. This started after one of the version updates, but I can’t recall which one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This happened earlier this morning, I am attaching the logs if anyone can offer any insight.

Looks like you’re running MacOS Sequoia. There is a known issue with Mac and their SMB protocol. Please see the following thread and specifically the solution called out here.

Thanks @Atomatth I’ll give that a try and let you know. Unfortunately I don’t often add new shows, but I’ll keep an eye out. I’ve been using an automounter to keep the share connected, but the share is for the root folder that contains all of the individual library folders. Any thoughts why it would only affect that one library and none of the others?

I experienced the same problem and for me, too, only one library (the first that was created when my PMS was set up) was affected.
It has to do with caching information for SMB connections. In the thread linked by @Atomatth you will find the workaround to disable caching in the nsmb.conf file.
However, for me enabling the SMB3 directoy leasing option in the Advanced Setting of the Synology solved the problem (here)

@Andreas_B you may have nailed it, I don’t fully remember but it’s likely that was my first library after the last Plex rebuild.

Thanks to both @Atomatth and @Andreas_B, I adjusted the settings as per those instructions (only needed the SMB3 option) and just ran a full library scan on the troublesome one and it ran with no problems.

**EDIT
Just ran into the issue again with another library. In double checking my SMB3 options, realized I had only applied it to home folder. I changed that to be “All Shared Folders” and reran the library scan and the “missing” items seemed to be found again. Anyone coming across this make sure you set it to ALL SHARED FOLDERS to prevent it happening again elsewhere.
