Lifetime Plex Pass discount

I totally support the original question by OP. Paying the for Plex Pass is for supporting the overall development of Plex, I get it. $150 can be too much for a lot of people; and those people willing to support. I think it’s totally viable for Plex to do something like a once in a while sale and give those many semi-poor people an opportunity to show their support. Do a trial run sale, Plex. You’ll be surprised to see an influx of support at an affordable amount. Any support is better than no support. This comment is obviously not intended for the rich folks out there.

And how do you think the many thousands of us that have paid full price would feel about that?

Are Plex inc going to give us a refund, I think not, will Plex Inc ever reduce the price, I think not, will Plex Inc raise the price, probably!

Regards

yeah, many thousands of you bought a pair of jeans at retail and happy with what you paid for. Comes Christmas time, the same pair of jeans went on sale for 50% off. Thousands of you whine and want refunds? No, you accepted it with no regrets knowing that you are quite happy with what you spent at the time. And your point is?

We semi poor folks simply speculating and asking if there’s a possibility for Plex to market itself a little by maybe have some kind of discount on special occasions. Hell, Christmas one a year sale would be awesome. Don’t even think for one second that Plex “doesn’t” need to market their product. Even giants like Apple and Google spends billions in marketing. Sigh, I’m out of this thread.

They should change the price to USD 99. At that price it would be almost a no-brainer, I bet they would sell at least 2x as many lifetime passes. The Plex guys do some excellent marketing, but on this one they are plain wrong. USD 149 simply scares off many people (including me), as does a monthly subscription fee.

It doesn’t make any sense to have the lifetime subscription be only 2.5 times the price of an annual subscription. Given that users with a lifetime subscription would likely be using Plex for much longer than 2.5 years, the low price would make the lifetime option unsustainable.

Personally, I love plex. I’m not rich, I can’t buy a life time for 150 euros… that’s a lot of money… If it came out again for 75 euros or even 100 euros, I’d get it. I don’t believe in subscription services either… So… Even if it’s a 24 hour thing, drop the price just for one day! I’d totally get it  If not… I’ll have to live without it. This is TOTALLY a luxury purchase… I can live without it… But I won’t spend so much on it, and I won’t pay monthly for it either :-\

what a really insightful post. do you speak with long pauses as well?

its a subscription world we live in unfortunately!

Honestly, I don’t have $150 to spend on plex. If it was $99 sure, I’d bite. For those that say “It’s not sustainable”, what is it that’s not? The developers would be getting some extra money from people like me that use the service for FREE and currently don’t pay anything into it but do enjoy the service. Do I have all of the nifty new features? Nope, but I can wait a few months for them to hit the free version. I guess what I’m getting at is that some money is better than no money. I also am one that doesn’t want another monthly bill to pay so I’d rather just pay outright for it. I would like to support plex but not for $150. Just my 2 cents.

So you don’t want a small monthly bill or a smallish annual bill, but also don’t want to pay $150?

I’d rather pay the annual fee to encourage continued development!

The 150 is to expensive for what it does, I only want it for for multiple accounts to lock down stuff my daughter cant watch. 75 I would pay for it, 150 no. I think if they had black Friday and holiday deals you would see a lot of people buy the plex pass, as it is people like me will just hold off.

I’ve heard that some people have been getting emails to get the lifetime subscription for $75. I would instantly buy at that price (or even $100) as I feel like $150 a little too much for my financial standpoint.

What a bunch of cheap whinny little bitches… Why don’t you go ask your mommy for some money…?

Hardly premium support… the app doesn’t even support bluetooth remote controls on PS4 (YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube etc all do). And no response from them on the forum thread.

Decent player/server. Not a $150 player/server.

it won’t ever go back to the previous price.

they don’t ever have slashed sales on passes.

they’ll do the app’s free every now and then. but not the passes.

if you like Plex, want the access to PlexHome/PS3/PS4/XboxOne/Roku then buy the pass.

if you can wait. they’ll all be free eventually. but no timescale is ever shared.

but paying isn’t only about access. its helping to fund something that is being constantly developed.

$150 is a lot of money to create home users and sync. That’s all I would use.

The lifetime pay is very expensive; I don´t understand why some apps don´t need plex pass (Samsung Smart TVs and Plex Media Theater for example), others simply need to buy the app (like iOS App) and the rest need it (PS3, PS4, Xbox, Roku, Vizio,…).

I almost had myself talked into the lifetime pass. But then I realized it is in USD, and with the Canadian dollar so weak right now, that is an even further jump in price.

I haven’t come across anything I can do with the plex pass, that I can’t do without it. However, the plex pass would make things easier. For example, I can separate plex server for each family member, so they can have their own login. With docker it is not significantly more resource expensive. But it would feel like I was cheating… So I would much prefer to pay a reasonable price and just do the way the developers intended.

Ironically, it is much harder to talk myself into paying $2 for an android app that to consider buying a lifetime pass… The biggest thing with apps, is I always worry about being ripped off. Especially with those in-app purchases, one never knows if they will work across devices, or even across updates or reinstalls of the same device.

Plex apparently offered a 50% discount on lifetime pass to some users. I paid for a one month sub so there is no chance I’ll be offered the discount.

Not sure where you seen this, but I pretty sure this isn’t the case. The actual price of Plex pass used to be $75 however, before it went up to its current price.

Search reddit and it was already confirmed. Plex recently offered some members the option to purchase lifetime at $75 or the monthly and annual at the old price point. A bit unfair if you ask me. I would gladly purchase lifetime if i could get it for $75. After this 1 month sub expires I will make sure I never subscribe again. Maybe in the future I could get the lifetime at $75.

Common guys, how many hours a day, week do you spend using Plex? How many more hours if you could sync to your phone with a Plex Pass. Lets say very conservative 1h a day. A lifetime subscription comes out to 41c an hour, only the first year, then free forever. Amortized over 3 years and I doubt it would add up to much for than 5-10cents an hour for most people in the forum. How much to you spend for 2h entertainment at the movies? Or some PS4, Xbox games that you will play for couple weeks, months. Or the time you are saving by not watching commercials.

If you are here complaining the pass is too expensive, you clearly think Plex is awesome. So just do it! Plex seems to have a viable business model, they aren’t disappearing soon. IMO they are doing a great job updating the apps, squashing bugs, adding features. Good developers cost 100-200k a year. Where do you think the money comes from? You are willing to spend $1000 a year on a mobile phone with service but not this? Pay for it and pride yourself in supporting the development of this awesome app.

Spend some time in the ios app store, try to find apps, utilities sub $5 with no in-app purchase that have been around for more that a couple years and are updated on a regular basis. There are few and far between, if any. Are they anywhere near as complex as Plex? I pay because I don’t want Plex to end up like 98% of those apps that just die because they don’t make enough money to keep the lights on.
