Plex server should really have repositories so that we can just type “apt-get install plex” or something along those lines rather than the current process. It also hugely simplifies the update process as well. This should also include plex pass releases.
I concur, I get annoyed with the ritual of upgrading and don’t want an (automated or manual) solution outside of apt. Half the reason I use .deb based OS’s is PPA’s.

(No Plexpass though)
Yeah, I think that’s why I didnt bother with it before, but now that I think it through i’ll just manually install any plex pass update. Thanks
Yeah, Linux people should not be left out of all the fun!
The whole point is that I want to stay on PlexPass releases. I have found a workaround for it. I would rather go through a repo though.
god yes, its a few minutes of unnecessary work to download and install the .deb manually.
Just make a ppa and let us use apt.
thanks for posting that updater script link

How long has this been there? If its not relatively new, they really need to work on their SEO. I have searched repeatedly and only found third party repos in the past.
+1 for a PlexPass repo!
On my freenas server I use the pkg command to update my plexpass version from freebsd’s pkg repo. I don’t know how OFFICIAL that version is, it’s sometimes slightly behind (which probably answers that question), but it works really well and I think it affords more control than the older freenas plugin update system.
Of course the newer freenas versions are going with a docker approach; we’ll see how well they implement that when they finish overhauling the initial botched release.
