Proper Plex Pass Repo for Linux

Plex Pass should have it’s own repo that can be installed to allow those of us who do want to keep up with the new versions.

It seems to be that this could be pretty easily managed with Candlepin

This would much improve my current workflow of:

  • Download latest Plex Pass RPM from website
  • WinSCP RPM package to my CentOS VM
  • yum localinstall .rpm
  • systemctl start plexmediaserver.service

why not use wget or curl?

Either way you have to go to the website to grab the press pass link to wget. As I typed this I wondered if it was a constant link to the newest version and then could just make an alias or script to automatically grab the newest, but that’s not the case as each version is a unique url.

For a script see: https://github.com/mrworf/plexupdate

Let’s get some love on this topic, The whole Linux side of this is a mess

The user experience for paying customers is worse than for non paying, something wrong there.

This still isn’t a thing? Isn’t there like a thing to protect the repo with something like a key you need to grab from the website first so not everyone can download and install the newest plex pass server version?

A pass-repo would be fantastic!
This, or amazon drive for plex cloud.

A proper repo … not only for PMS, but also for PMP for Linux!

yup i totally agree

You might want to be more specific about what Linux distribution you’re wanting a repo for. Each of the major ones have distro-specific requirements, requiring a distinct package and repo for each one. From the talk of RPMs, it sounds like you’re after CentOS/RHEL, which may or may not be compatible with Fedora, but wont be compatible with Ubuntu or Gentoo (or oldstable Debian, or possibly Arch).

The platform-specific part is nicely solved by Docker, allowing for a standardised environment across all distributions, which may be a more likely result. I don’t know if there’s an official Plex docker image, but requesting that might get more traction as it’s the new shiny solution which may result in more interest from the devs.

Plex Media Server is offered for Ubuntu and Fedora … repos for those would be perfectly fine.

Bumpity Bump Bump. was just about to ask if there was a version of this: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/235974187 for plexpass - guess not…weeps

its a shame… please plex gods, hear us!

This should be a thing! I run multiple instances of Plex on devices using different debian based distributions and would love to have a repository for Plex Pass members.

I would love this as well

Please make this available!

I have created a poll to see if this will catch the developers attention.

I’m currently planning my first headless Ubuntu server and therefore would love to see this implemented.

YES Please! We have paid for the service, it would be really great if we could update in the same way as general users.
