I’ve started to have lip sync problems on my Shield TVs mainly when using Live TV. I’ve got my PLEX Server running on a Synology NAS and my Shield and NAS are hard wired. Lately the audio is tending to slip ahead of the video on Live TV.
What I mean by that is that it starts out synced and then gets out of sync. Rewinding 10 sec on my remote fixes the problem temporarily. When I check the stats, both video and audio are being direct streamed from the server.
I tried turning off Auto Refresh Rate in my Plex app client as some have suggested. It didn’t seem to help me.
I notice this is most prominent when the audio stream seems to change on the channel (e.g. the TV show is encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1, but then when it goes to commercial it gets out of sync). Or it starts out fine on commercial and gets out of sync when it goes back to the show. If I didn’t know better I’d say on some stations the audio stream is changing (Dolby Digital for the show, and Stereo for commercials) and this is causing a timing problem.
When I watch a movie, or something that is consistently encoded in DD or DTS, I don’t see the issue.
I’ve tried outputting everything as PCM, upmixing Stereo to 5.1 on the Shield, bypassing or simply passing through audio signals on Plex client and the TV (my receiver is connected via optical from the TV).
For LIVE TV I use a HD Homerun Prime and Verizon Fios. I don’t have this problem if I use LIVE Channels (Android TV app or Kodi), so it seems like it is being caused in the PMS or Plex Client on my Shield TV.
