Lip sync issues. Again... still

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: Latest

So how many times does this need to be reported for someone to take action? I posted before in the server thread and it went ignored. I’ve seen other complaints and they went ignored. I posted logs before and that went nowhere.

ATV4K + TrueHD audio = out of sync audio. It’s a minor sync issue, but once noticed you might as well sign everything cause it might actually sync!

Come on guys. Pay attention to this ■■■■.

Great news. I fixed this. Well if you consider buying a Shield TV Pro just for a Plex client a fix. Delay is gone and so far everything I throw it direct plays.

i have the same issue “match Framerate setting on the apple tv” triggeres this

Thanks for letting me know I wasn’t alone on this. The sync issue is minute, but still noticeable. No issues on the Shield though.

I’ve experienced this as well; I’ve reported it to the devs and will see what debugging/logs are needed. Stay tuned…

Thanks. I’ve posted before about this and included logs a few times. Nothing came of it. This was just my latest meltdown.

Feel free to search on my posts for more.

If they can figure this out I’d be happy to return the Shield.

I’ve noticed that it only happens with the “experimental” (mpv) player, and happens with more than just TrueHD audio (e.g. 5.1 AC3).

At start of playback, it’s fine, but then as time goes on, it starts to drift.

Switching off the experimental player (so it stops direct playing, and starts direct streaming using the built in player) results in no problems.

Switching to a different app (specifically, MrMC) gets me direct play and no audio sync issues.

I never noticed this happening before, but it’s definitely happening now on app version 2.12 (14020).

I’ve definitely tweaked the match framerate setting at various times, so I should fiddle that again and see if that has any impact. Thanks for the pointer! For now, I’m just not using the ‘experimental’ mpv player and back to using the original, which works just fine.

EDIT: I’ve disabled the match framerate setting, and it’s no longer going out of sync when using the enhanced/experimental (mpv) player, so that’s good enough for me for now.

Hmmm… that’s interesting and may give them a clue. If I have that off I see video stuttering in some apps, mainly Netflix. Haven’t tried that in a while.

For me I don’t see the sync getting worse over time. It stays consistent from the beginning and is just off enough to be noticeable. And I could swear I’ve only seen it on items with an audio track that’s transcoding to FLAC, but that could be wrong.

Have you managed to get devs eyes on this yet?

On the one hand I have the Shield that plays audio perfectly, but I’m finding some video inaccuracies for some reason (with an ISF calibrated TV).

On the other hand I have the ATV that plays video perfectly, but the audio is out of sync.

I’m about to loose my freaking mind here.

Well dang it… the Shield issue is a known issue and has nothing to do with Plex.

Soooo… still would like to know if any eyes are on the sync issue…

I haven’t had time to do this:

I’ll save you the trouble.

You had actually responded a few times on that thread. If you want fresher logs just tell me what you need. I don’t know if it’s server side or client side. Something tells me client side, but I have no clue how to get logs via the ATV.

Fresh logs would be great! Make sure PMS settings are: debug ON and verbose OFF:

Apple TV logs:

(If you get an error when downloading the ATV logs through the web browser, go back to the Plex settings and toggle the download logging setting off and on again).

I’ll point the dev to your post with the logs; he’ll see them on Monday when he’s back at work.

I totally didn’t see this reply and had all but given up on my ATV for Plex because this drives me crazy. I’ll grab fresh logs today and upload them.

Can you try setting the audio output of the Apple TV to Dolby Digital, and see if that helps?

Sure? But won’t the server still need to transcode the audio since the source is TrueHD?

In any case, I’ll give that a try some time today and report back. Appreciate you following up.

Wow. That actually corrects the problem I’m seeing. And when I switch back and forth in the same spot in the video it’s extremely noticeable. All that said, does this point you in a good direction?

Yeah, it’s weird. We’re still looking into this, but nothing further at the moment to share, I’m afraid.

Ok. No worries. My Plex viewing has mostly been done on my Shield that I bought cause this was driving me nuts. Of course I found an issue on that too, but it’s not the same thing and it’s easy to get around. Have a thread on that with logs that’s being looked at as well. I seem to have the worst luck.
