Live DVR Timeshift Storage Location

Hello,

I’m struggling to find where plex stores the temporary timeshift data. I can find many threads of if you’ve told the programme to record, but if your not recording, where is the temporary timeshift data being saved?

Thanks

The temporary data is stored in a .grab directory in the Library you setup LiveTV/DVR to record to.
This is done even if you aren’t actually recording. The same mechanism allows you to watch and then keep what you’ve already watched (should you change your mind mid way through the program)

This is what confused me, as i haven’t set any libraries of which to record. When i added my DVR, their was no required to point to a library. All my normal pre-existing library’s are R/O, so if it was saving their it can’t… and i would assume the feature wouldn’t work.

I thought if you were not recording it was stored in the /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache directory, but maybe I’m mistaken.

At least on my system, that is where they are going. I just tested it…

That’s interesting. I have never tried NOT having a recording location.

Because of how the transcoder works, which is the heart of timeshifting, It must be using the transcoder temporary directory by default.

I just verified, live tv is transcoded to the default transcoder/sessions path.

Live tv inherently is not a dvr’d recording so there is no (or not necessarily any) configured library path.

Dvr shows goes the to the applicable .grab temp folder until plex finishes post processing it to its final designated path.
