Surely its all still part of the same network though? To my knowledge you can add many tuners to the same server, in your case add them to the powerful server.
However I was using a Asustor NAS Intel Celeron J4005 as my server and the transcoding capability of that was useless.
No, 2 locations miles apart on separate networks. Hence a server per location, no desire to have a permanent VPN between the two so Iām stuck with needing it to work.
Oh Ok, Well if you werenāt too bothered about resolution⦠You could connect remotely (plex remote access) to your NAS server and stream your live tv and recordings. You donāt need a vpn that just really hides your location and what your looking at.
Or depending on which tuner you have I found SD on the HD home run fire tv ap worked fine for live tv it is was only HD it struggled with.
Just had this reply from home run:
Dear James,
The Fire TV Stick 4K has a bug in the video decoder that causes it to crash when playing certain types of video, and the UK HD channels happen to be one of those types. Amazon is aware of the issue and last we heard they were waiting on a fix from the company that makes the GPU (since that contains the decoder) but thereās no timeframe on when they might get that fix or when it might be released to the public via a firmware update.
The latest version of the HDHomeRun app has a change in it that bypasses the broken decoder when playing those channels, so it sounds like you might not be updated to the latest version. Once you update it should stop crashing.
Any issues with Plex would need to be reported to Plex for them to investigate. The crash youāre seeing has the same root cause of the broken decoder. We donāt know if Plex has the capability of changing the way their app decodes the way we did though. We use our own video player so we have more control over things like the decoder in use. If Plex uses the builtin player in Android then they might not have the same level of control. If you force transcoding in the app it should help though.
Yeah, that appears to be the bug I linked to above, looks like itās been problematic for a year or so. Iād be surprised if thereās a fix anytime soon so Iāve disabled the problem channels for now and might buy a Roku stick.
Does it affect the Cube do you know?
Very frustrating! I suppose, Amazon donāt really prioritise this problem high as their video even in 4K works ok for me. Iām gunner get onto Amazon support and see what they have to say for themselves because I would imagine we are all entitled to a refund as their product doesnāt work as advertised. Il ask about the cube too @ScottSilver.
Just out of interest how are you disabling the channels - Are you doing it in the EPG and just un checking them? Thatās problematic in itself it seems to take ages for my guide to refresh!
Iād be surprised as it has completely different hardware specs, the SoC being a Mediatek MT8695 on the 4K & an Amlogic S922 on the cube. The issue is seemingly related to a vendor driver issue as per the HDHomeRun response protechgarage27_gmail_com has posted and hereās an Amazon response on Github stating the same -
4K FTV Stick (AFTMM) renders green screen only for some mpeg2 videos Ā· Issue #58 Ā· amzn/exoplayer-amazon-port Ā· GitHub
ā¦so it appears to be a Mediatek issue.
Yes, just disabling them in Plex settings and the guide refresh is taking a VERY long time.
Ok, just been onto Amazon. Just updated the my device and In my quick test all works as it should!! I urge you all to check that your device is up to date. Home - My fire tv - about - check for updates - update
Iām not really sure why this didnāt happen automatically, they say it has to be idle (which it was) Have a strong WIFI signal (which I believe it does) and auto updates has to be selected?
Either way my HD live TV in the Homerunhd ap is working now. I still have problems within plex
He wouldnāt answer whether the latest update included the transcode fix or whether this issue effects the cube you have to give them your serial number.
Didnāt work for me. New stick, latest updates and still the same issues.
Yep apologies, Plex still has issues. Weirdly one of my sticks is new, installed it yesterday and it updated so to have another update today made me think we were onto a winner. Also Channel 5 seems to give me the most agro and that was working ok after the update so again thought we were onto a winner.
Like I say HDhome run ap in HD seems to be working well so far.
I can confirm Fire TV Cube (Gen 2) works perfectly. Plex and Channels (DVR) tune in no issues.
Howās the picture, does it de-interlace the video?
Good to see this thread come back to life but sadly still no solution for Plex.
It is just the 4k stick Iāve found that simply wonāt work at all due to the bug in its firmware. Fire stick gen 1, gen 2 and Fire TV gen 2 will all play live and recorded UK HD channels but the picture quality isnāt very good due to it being interlaced content.
Nvidia shield is still the only streaming device Iāve found that works well with live / recorded tv as that can de-interlace through hardware.
Channels de-interlaces the video. Iāll have to look at Plex but the quality is good to my eye. Iāve just got the Cube 2 tonight so Iāll watch IACGMOOH with the Mrs on ITV HD and have s good look.

I was just reading now a few forums and a few customers were reporting the same thing. Better to watch in SD as the device will transcode making playback so much slower. Seems the newer devices , although state are compatible with mpeg2 formats, really arenāt. As much as this is a genuine issue that a lot of people of facing, not much attention is being brought to it. A ticket said a software update is coming soon to fix the issue and that was in 2018 so we are not aware as to when this update will occur with that specific fix but hereās a link to one of our forums:
https://forums.developer.amazon.com/questions/94031/mpeg2-decoding-on-the-new-fire-tv-2017-no-longer-s.html
Most definitely would need to escalate this. Just looking for the right channel to do so

Thank you for the link you have provided. At this point what I can do is escalate this to our in-house engineers so they can give us a concrete answer regarding this

Did a bit of research now to see if the 4k Fire TV Stick can handle mpeg2 and I can see that it does not. Apparently the stick canāt convert that in hardware and tends to overheat and shutdown cores when stressed.
Agree, believe you need a client that has plenty of processing power.
Hopefully get an answer by Friday, whether actionable or not.
Todays conclusion with amazon: Our team is still working on the issue and Iām not sure as to when they will be able to fix the issue. I would request you to wait for few more days as we are working on it to fix the issue with an update
Hope they fix this soon!
