Live TV constant buffering *FIXED* - remove Plex and install Emby

I feel your level of agitation @selektaandy i have been a little disillusioned of late.

As a local media server, plex is working quite well for me, and up until i invested in the firestick 4k the live tv hasnt been an issue for me.

I am somewhat surprised though, how the problem seems to be getting blamed on the server side not keeping up with the transcode, when i have 2 alternative applications (HDHomerun native app, and Channels) which play flawlessly on all devices, including the firestick 4k… is there any need to force a transcode at all?! I dont understand…

Plex live tv even works pretty much perfectly on my 4 year old firestick, barring the occasional issue which you could easily blame on the weather…

So my main query is why does the newfangled all singing all dancing UHD 4k firestick not have the proper playback facilities?! @anon18523487 can you possibly shed any light on this? Please dont ask for my logs, this is a general enquiry as to what the difference is between how plex is designed to run on the 2 different firesticks, the old one not forcing a transcode and the up to date one forcing a transcode… (channel specific transcode, some channels play A OK) if there is any information you could provide that would be much appreciated, even if it is to just further discussion.

All the best one and all…

@noeljameslangstaff_gmail_com In my case, old firstick or 4k firestick makes no difference. They are both direct stream, no transcoding for either. Local media NEVER has this issue, nor does playback of recorded OTA. It’s only watching live OTA.

Please keep comments civil.

Hmmmm, looks like xTeVe is somewhat implied to this issue. Investigating.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with xTeVe that would cause buffering.

It would be the source or the Android client causing the problems.

I think i may have found a fix… others had suggested, but i hadn’t tried until now.

The fix is to throw Plex in the trash where it belongs and install Emby which has been working flawlessly.

Maybe you guys should try hiring some devs from Emby. They seem to actually know what they’re doing.

It really can be a huge pile of crap all too often can’t it lmao.

Yes. Run away and save yourself the frustration. These clowns don’t care about their paying users.

I have 4 streams going on Emby, 2 of which are wifi, no buffering on any of them… running on the same VM as Plex. This is CLEARLY a software problem with Plex.

I have been reporting for the past 6 months, I am unable to remotely access Live DVR channel’s on the plex app on my phone using Nvidia Shield as my server, You can access it via the web portal on plex but on the app hardly works. also another issue been encountering, whenever I schedule programs to record it doesn’t record and other times it works fine, this is getting really annoying, it used to work so good before, and after new updates its gone from bad to worse, please fix and also update users instead of ignoring us, as we have paid for this service.
