Watching a show currently recording can be a challenge. Right now I have a basketball game that is recording and about halfway through. If I select it from the guide and choose “Watch Now” it starts from the current live time and I cannot go back to the start.
Any ideas?
Update - I cancelled the recording and can now watch the first half from the start.
I’m trying to start a new recording of the same episode so I can watch the 2nd half, but it won’t let me. I can click on the record button, but it doesn’t actually start recording.
So frustrating.
It has been a rough day for Plex at our house. We set the Saints / Rams game to record and set it to record long about an hour just in case. We sat down to watch the game at just about the time that it was originally scheduled to end, meaning there was still an hour to go on the recording with the extra time I added.
I could not find the game anywhere in Plex. It wasn’t in the Live TV “on now” because it had just ended. It also wasn’t in TV Shows because it wasn’t done recording yet. When I went to the Recordings screen I could see that it was still recording, but I did not have an option to start watching.
Finally, an hour later when it finished recording it showed up in TV Shows.
Is this something that can be redesigned? Wouldn’t it make sense to immediately put anything that is currently recording into TV Shows (with the recording indicator so people would know it is still recording)? Having to look at the “On Now” or the guide to find currently recording shows is inconvenient and in this case didn’t work since the show I wanted to start watching wasn’t in the guide any more.
This has been a problem for me for a long time, months. PLEX doesn’t seem to understand basic LiveTV/DVR requirements and provide very little insight into their plans. It seems like they won’t look at any bugs unless you’re willing to invest as much if not more time than their developers to debug it.
Many are looking at alternatives. I’ve already spent my money so I check in periodically. EMBY was easy to stand up and it’s been pretty solid.
