Correct. The Smart TV apps do not yet support Live TV.

Thanks MovieFan.
Prior to recent updates i.e from start new live display ā€œas working on windows PCā€ period.
Live TV worked in old format on Plex client for both Plex server and NAS server
but now only works when using Plex Client with NAS server.
No Live TV option showing on Plex client with Plex server
Same is case wiih Samsung ( Phone ) client where Live TV only shows NAS server and no longer the Plex Server
this was previously NOT the case, Hence my post and monitoring during the current series of updates
hope this clarifies and agrees with what you have as current status.

PS I am now using NAS server for all new recordings. But hope to return to using Plex Server.

Can you provide me a screenshot from your phone? There should be a drop down at the top to allow you to choose which server you are accessing.

I have three servers. The problem Iā€™m having is only my mac server on the nvidia shield and fire tv wonā€™t show the live tv/dvr toggle. Diskstation and shield server work on all devices. The only time I see the option is on my mac or iphone.

I am having the same issue with Plex on my Nvidia Shield. The live TV option has disappeared. This isnā€™t the first time this has happened. Itā€™s rather frustrating they canā€™t seem to figure this out.

So frustrating! I factory reset my shield and it still wouldnā€™t show the live TV option!

Same issue on Shield TV and Plex app for Windows 10. Works fine on my phone and the web interface. Option on Shield used to appear at random, but is gone with the latest version.

Just out of curiosity do any of you have a library set up for recordings? I donā€™t really record any shows and never had a library set up for recordings. I was able to view live tv on just about any device other than the shield. Not sure exactly when it stopped working or changed for the shield but, I set up a library on server for recordings and low and behold the guide and live tv started working instantly on my shield.

I have 2 servers running on windows pcs. One is running the latest public, the other the latest beta server. When I try to access live TV on the Nvidia shield box, I can only get live tv from the server running the public server unless I turn off the public server. Once I turn off the public server installation, itā€™s fine from the beta server. As soon as I start the public server, live tv is no longer available from the beta server. Hope this helps.

So I log on to my plex account and cant see my live tv dvr option under server settings??? Why has it disappeared ??? Cant see any answers in above !!! Only reason I bought plex pass was for live tv!! Helppp

Similar issue hereā€¦
I have two NVIDIA Shields (letā€™s call them S1 and S2ā€¦).
S1 is running Plex Server using an HDHR Prime and S2 an HDHR Connect (to balance the workload)ā€¦
S2 LiveTV/Guide can be seen in S1, iPad,
S1 Live TV/Guide CANNOT be seen (no menu selection) in S1, S2, iPad,
S1 and S2 TV/DVR/Guide CAN be seen in Web Interface (noting that a page refresh must be executed after switching from S1<ā€“>S2, else, Guide data sticks w previous data bf server switchā€¦ In iPad this is a no-can-do bc there is no was to refresh Guide Data is iOS app - as far as I know).
S1 is actually recording TV shows bc TV Shows can be seen in S1, S2, iPad, and Web Interface.

Edit Jan 12 ā€¦ More troubleshooting and observationsā€¦
If both S1 and S2 servers are enabled, only one Live TV menu is available in one of the Shields, even if each shield is connected to its own separate HDHR Tuner. In order to see Live TV and be able to set DVR Recordings, only one PMS can be enabled at a time, bc other Shield Tuner and Live TV is not available as a selection.
Soā€¦ In my setup, there seems to be some dependencies between Shields when using two tuners, two Shields and two PMS enabled Shields on the same network were one Shield Live TV and Guide functionality is inhibited (not allowing DVR set recording). This is not MY expected behaviour.

Any suggestions to resolve this is welcomedā€¦

I have exactly the same problem. Two shields, but only one will show the Live TV option at a time using the newer HDHR connect duo. I wouldnā€™t expect this either. Both shields can view live tv at the same time using the Live Channels app, so other apps do not seem to be affected, itā€™s unique to Plex. Iā€™m considering turning off PMS on one of the Shields until a fix is found.

It has been a while since my complaint below, but now PLEX/PMS and my two NVIDIA Shields are working flawlesslyā€¦
Updates to PMS have helped a LOT in making Shield Systems very stable (to the point that I donā€™t think about them anymore, it just worksā€¦)
Added SSDs to each Shield for recording TV shows.
No longer use Kodi for Recorded TV playback bc Plex Player is very stable.
For stored media like Music and personal videos, I put those in regular HDDs and work just fine.
Each Shield has its own TV-Guide download (one for Cable other for OTA). TV-Guide Integration is still separate but operational access between Shields is as expected (via network access between them)ā€¦
So, my previous comments below are no longer validā€¦ Iā€™m very satisfied with the current functionality of PLEX/PMS/NIVIDIA Shieldsā€¦

Iā€™ve turned off one my two Nvidia Shield PMS since it serves no purpose at this time. Wish I had known this before hand so I wouldnā€™t have bought another Shield and instead just use a simple Google TV box as the Xiaomi or a Amazon Firestick for viewing content on second TV. Note also that for viewing recorded PMS content, Iā€™m using Kodi 18.x and it offers much better (reliable for my setup) viewing experience than the Plex Player.

Thatā€™s a good call. Iā€™ll turn off the PMS on one of the Shields too I think. If Kodi is better for playing the content I wonder if Kodi might also offer a better overall DVR experience? Iā€™ll look into the options and report back.

Same problem on the AFTV. Plex has been aware of this for over a year now and they show no indication of fixing it or even acknowledging the problem.

If you have 2 or more Plex servers, only one server will display the live tv on the AFTV. If you switch to another server, live tv will not appear. The only way around this is to only have one Plex server and then uninstall and reinstall the Plex app and then the live tv will appear on the AFTV.

Sorry, Iā€™m new to shield, but not plex. Iā€™m wanting to view the live tv streams from my linux based PMS using the nvidia, just like i can using a fire stick, mobile device, etc. etc. but for some reason, the plex client only lists ā€˜moviesā€™ as an available menu option.

Works fine from everything elseā€¦ but as far as I can tell, the plex installation on this device is bespoke / custom and I cannot remove it and get a different version from the play store etc.

Please helpā€¦
