Manually add missing channel

I’m a new user, trying out Plex Pass, since Windows Media Centre is going away soon.

I have an HDHomeRun Dual (yes, it’s old, but it still works), and Plex easily picked it up. But when I do a ‘Scan Channels’, it doesn’t pick up all of the channels that WMC has. Specifically the local PBS station on channel 9 (nor the subchannels) doesn’t get picked up. Nor do some other channels, e.g. 4.1 (CH38-3 according to HDHomeRun Setup). I do know that these channels do come in clearly, so I’m not sure why Plex isn’t picking them up.

Is there a way that I can manually add the channels that I know that I should be able to receive?

Thanks!

no, plex only see what the HDHR reports is available.

you can adjust the channels and rescan in the plex dvr settings, click where it says ‘43 enabled’ in the image below.

then you can rescan and/or enable/disable the channels you want.

but if they do not show up on the scan, then plex cannot tune to it.

you might try adjusting your antenna, or buying a new one sticking it in the attic or wherever.

I have one of these hanging in my attic for my HDHR quatro @ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DNJZ58M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

also, if you have an IOS device, I recommend an app called ‘signal gh’ which will let you see live signal strength for each tuner (which you can set to different channels), along with a nice map of towers so you can properly orientate the antenna for best reception.

Run the HDHomerun Setup software and rescan in there. Unlike the new models that rescan via built in web api the Dual needs to have the channel list uploaded from the software.

I must be doing something wrong. The channels already appear in the HDHomeRun setup program, and I can use the ‘View’ function there to verify it comes in clearly (via the VLC viewer). Unfortunately the newer versions of the HDHomeRun software seem to have stripped the ‘signal/symbol quality’ of the antenna.
I’ll have to experiment some more when I get some time…

Procedure to report missing channels.

Thanks @pl_5309. I’ve filed a report there, although it feels like that’s more about how accurate the program data is, rather than Plex failing to detect channels during its scan.
I’m a little surprised that Plex uses HDHomeRun for getting its list of possible channels during the scan, simply because the result doesn’t match what HDHomeRun setup says, and it takes so long to do its scan. I assumed that if it queried the HDHomeRun Dual directly, that it would be a matter of seconds, not minutes.

Oh well, we’ll see what happens from here. I may need to investigate some other DVR solutions if this doesn’t work out…

Thanks for your help!

I got a few more channels by following the directions with (ironically enough) Emby – https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/45783-legacy-hdhomerun-setup/ . I had to do a full re-scan from the HDHomeRun software, and only then did Plex discover a couple more channels during its Scan. Yet oddly enough, Channel 9 (PBS) still didn’t show up! I’ll probably end up switching over to Emby, since it is able to tune in to that channel…

Ah, here’s the ‘official’ doc saying that a re-scan is required: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Older-HDHomeRun-Support
