on my Android phone at ANY transcoding quality. however, it will play back ALL transcoding qualities of pre-recorded content.
LAN playback for everything is perfect, including transcoding multiple Live TV streams, prerecordered content, etc.
Tuner: HDHomerun Quatro, latest firmware (Tried the Connect and Extend too)
Running latest PMS version 1.12.x and tried all the betas & publics before it.
Plex Server is installed on a dedicated Win 10 machine, i7-3770 @ 3.40 GHz, 16GB ram. I don’t use it for anything other than Plex. While playing back, overall CPU hovers around 10% and RAM also about 10%.
C Drive (OS and apps only) uses Samsung SSD,
D Drive (for Transcoding only) uses Samsung SSD Drive
Internet speeds are 350 megabits down / 25 megabits up, solid. Getting 1G up/1G down on Friday.
It seems that playback via a Web browser (Version 3.39.3 at the moment) on Chrome browser remotely is flawless.
If this is not a common problem, my gut tells me it’s something easy I am overlooking, like port forwarding being TCP&UDP instead of just TCP or something along those lines.
If anyone has any possible hints/ideas to try to get this going I would be grateful!
Works for me, I use it quite a lot when I am away from home for watching sports on my phone.

Do you have special server or router settings? Do you have just the 1 port (TCP) forwarded on your router?
Yes, just one port. Live TV or file playback all happens through the same port. TCP and UDP.
I thought just TCP port forwarding was required. Will try UDP now as well and report back…
No difference. Still won’t play longer than about 10 sec max (at 240p quality)

What version is your PMS and OS?
Latest version of everything. Its always worked all through the various versions.
My server is on a QNAP, the android devices are NVIDIA Shield and Samsung Phone. The Samsung phone is what I use remotely.
Did your win 10 recently update? if so, check to ensure that your network(on the server) is setup as private as this defaults to public after updates.
I think I have figured it out! If i disable “Secure Connections” in server settings, the problem goes away! However, I lose my green lock when connecting to Plex remotely. Now just need to figure out the solution!
This is something I have been fighting for months, not just a recent problem.
Again I would check that setting… may have started occurring right at that time.

I did. It’s set to private. All firewall options are disabled.
Hmm sounds almost like plex relay gettin in the way.
I tried a few different DNS servers just for fun, didn’t help. If i disable “Secure Connections”, Live TV playback appears fixed.
I use an android phone… just looked at my settings as I have it set to 720p 4 megs remotely.
go into the settings on your phone and then to advanced then tick the box that says use android media player or the likes.
As soon as I disable that setting… nothing works right.
enabled works great

I’ve done that. Made no difference either way. The “Secure Connections” (disabled) was my fix.
