Live TV & DVR can't find my TV tuner card anymore

So I installed a new TV tuner card, hoping it would be great and reliable, as it’s designed for use with Plex. The one in question is the WinTV-quadHD. Looking at the log for the Plex Tuner Service, i get this:

. . . and it’s repeated a lot. To try to narrow down the problem, I installed WinTV, and it sees the tuner and plays TV just fine. But I really want to use Plex, I also use it for music, and it’s more functional and friendly than WinTV.

Tried contacting Hauppauge, they just suggested uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling, which I tried, but they refused any further support. Their own WinTV software works. Can I get some assistance with this? Is there at least a way to get more direct support from Plex?

How many network adapters are in there?
Any VPN software or proxies etc,. installed?
Has the network connection been set to “Private”?

Five, I have disabled all except one and am going to try a reboot of the PC. In the meantime, here is where I am stuck:

It appears the only working network connection at this time is a wireless adapter. That’s not a good idea for a Plex server in general.
But it is not the primary issue.

The main problem appears to be a damaged database file:

Wow, that was it. I found the databases and removed the files. Now Plex can see my TV tuners fine, didn’t even need to install them. Hopefully the bad data doesn’t come back, but now I know a fix for the future.

I noticed there is an “Perform refresh of program guide data” option - I usually have it on, but now I think I will keep it off. Could it be a source of corruption? Receiving bad program data or something?

If you want usable EPG data, you need to have it on, of course. Otherwise you won’t be able to even tune a channel.

Of course you can, but who wants to do that manually each day?

Main causes of a damaged database file are:

  • the drive where the Plex data folder is stored, has been running out of free space
  • the redirection of the Plex data folder to a network share is a sure fire recipe for a corrupt database file
  • the drive with the Plex data folder on it is damaged
  • an over zealous anti virus software interfering with Plex. You better instruct your A/V to not interfere in the Plex data folder.

. . . eventually I’ll turn it back on and write a script to clear the files should it happen again.

This’ll mean you will lose all data Plex has gathered and computed about your media.
I don’t think you want to clean that on a regular basis.

I’ll just put it on my desktop to run it on demand. If there’s a more narrow way to fix it in the future, I’d be interested. Something about the sqlite fixes in your link weren’t working out for me, I’m not an SQL command line expert so I don’t know how to modify them for my system.
