Live Tv & DVR guide data missing on AppleTv and iOS

I find it funny that they don’t even acknowledge it on their status page: https://status.plex.tv

The other thing that is now clear is that people at Plex ARE working! They have updated this with some API issues and DNS issues over the past week. I wonder if this is related and we are at the mercy of an iOS and tvOS update? For the first time, Apple has continued to take updates and submissions over the holidays, but they are likely short-staffed. Regardless, there is no excuse for them not tracking this.

I think it is time to push as many of our contacts at Plex as we can find. It is ironic that I keep getting bugged to do the lifetime subscription every day, with them extending that. I still feel that is money down the toilet with this type of response.

With everyone that is also experiencing this issue, can you please check if you have data from the 1st Dec?

If data is present for everyone from this date then I doubt Plex will lift a finger as it’ll fix itself in a few days.

I presume you meant Dec 31st. I see it starting at 6pm PST that day. You could be right. But that is pathetic. I am reaching out to their CEO right now.

Depends on time zone I guess. I’ve updated my original post as I’m getting data appearing 10-11am Jan 1.

I am also having same issues.

Looks like this is an issue with all Apple TV OS & iOS devices starting with PMS version 1.24.4.5081 (I just downgraded 1 by 1 about 15 versions) [Plex Media Server - #464 by Ridley]. I’m suspecting this fix is causing the grief: “(EPG) DVR set up using XMLTV guide data could show overlapping airings in the grid.” I tried downgrading below this version and they all crash the Apple TV and iOS client when trying to view the guide.

I have data on Jan 1.

Same here on AppleTV 4K (original) with missing guide through 12/31 7pm EST. Recordings I had set before Christmas before the guide ran out have been recording successfully despite not showing in the guide.

FYI, I have received a response from a senior executive at Plex and they have identified the issue and it is logged as a major issue. They have many folks out for the holiday, which is impacting the ability to properly resolve, test, and implement a fix to distribute.

I admit this is a horrible way to deal with this, but as someone in the industry, I do understand those frustrations. I am sure a postmortem will be done and reviewed. There isn’t much we can do, but wait. At least we now know they are on it. I just wish it would have been logged on the status page. I’m still going to push for this.

Experiencing the same issue. Although have guide data commencing 1st Jan.

Hi folks  Thanks for all the reports and sincere apologies for this issue. We’ve investigated internally, and we have a fix that we’ll be pushing out as soon as we can, however with App Store review times etc we’re unlikely to be able to resolve in the App Store version before it becomes irrelevant (since the guide works from Jan 1st 00:00 UTC onward).

I do have a few possible workarounds to share with you that may help alleviate the problem somewhat (nothing perfect I’m afraid):

  1. You can still schedule recordings using the What’s On tab, the Browse tab, by searching for the show by name, or by accessing the guide using another client such as Plex Web. And you should still be able to tune to specific channels from the guide, even though the program data isn’t shown.
  2. Changing your device’s “Region” to “United Kingdom” (in Settings → General → Language & Region) and restarting the Plex app will leave you with the opposite problem: you’ll be able to access the guide for the rest of December but not for January 1st or 2nd. This won’t change the language of your device, but will change the way things like dates are formatted in apps etc. This might not be worth it to you, but it is an option so I thought I’d note it here.
  3. We’ve pushed a new beta with a fix to TestFlight, so if you’re part of our beta testing program you can update to the fixed version right now. If you aren’t, but would like to test this fix please DM me an email address and I will send you a TestFlight invite as soon as I can.

Unfortunately none of the above are perfect solutions, and I can only apologize again for this issue that I know comes at the worst time - the holidays are peak Live TV time! We hope the above workarounds can at least alleviate some of the pain, and sorry again.

I def agree to not rollback to 1.24.1. Just tried it and the program hung on startup. Thank goodness for daily backups; reinstalled 1.25.2 a-okay. Guide still MIA.

Thank you for the update.

Is it too late for me to join this party? Same issues for me.

Changing the Apple TV’s Region to the United Kingdom did work for me and brought guide info back. Now I need to set a reminder to change it back on 1/1. Thank you. :date:

Thanks for the update. I retired from enterprise IT support, so can see them scrambling with their holiday skeleton crew.

This was an app bug, specific to the last week of the year (which is why we hadn’t previously identified it when testing a few weeks earlier), and only affected displaying the EPG data in the guide, and not the actual EPG data itself. It is not something that is related to plex.tv services (such as providing the EPG data, or authentication, or the hosted web app, or notifications), which is why it isn’t listed there. The EPG is still functional on all other clients, it is simply a display issue bug on the Apple apps, which has now been rectified in the current beta, and will be out to everyone as soon as we can get Apple to approve it.
