Live TV & DVR Icons not showing image

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402

Player Version#: 3.104.2

I am just wondering why some of the icons on the Live TV & DVR menu never show up. This is consistent on all apps. This just started last month with one of the updates.

Thanks,
John

I have been experiencing the same issue, and it seemed to start after PLEX switched to a new metadata provider. Right now I’m running the latest beta of Windows Server, Version 1.16.3.1433. From what I can tell, many of these shows lacking a poster image are paid advertisements, local sporting events, or network-specific specials which may not have full metadata. The last provider PLEX used would add generic “filler” posters to these shows based on category. It may be possible that the new metadata provider does not offer this option. Any information from PLEX would be greatly appreciated!

This issue doesn’t seem limited to Live TV. Also get it for TVDB scanner for TV Shows. (Movies w/ The Movie DB seems fine).

Due to Manjaro going w/ proprietary software I reimaged my server w/ just straight up Arch and saw there was a newer Plex version than what I had had w/ Manjaro. Obviously used the newer package (1.16.3.1433).

I have one TV show that can pull the poster image for reasons unknown, 1965 Thunderbirds. All my other shows like Avatar have episode summary, cast pictures, but no season / show poster and background

Ya, its terrible. They need to put it back to the way it was, all worked perfectly. can someone contact them and tell them the new metadata provider sucks, they don’t even have 50% of the metadata. the old provider had 100%, why would they change!

Same results for me… It’s frustrating!!! Can anyone help us out?
Thanks,

Mike

Same problem here… I guess they haven’t fixed it yet

@sa2000 would it be fair to say that addressing this is after fixing the EPG, alongside genres etc?

cheers.

These need to be investigated. It is either that they are missing in the data we get from our provider or that we are not picking them up. Posters and icons is on the list of what needs to be looked into and it would be after genre because genre is being looked into at the moment

In the meantime I can investigate specific airings / episodes / movies with the usual diagnostics so i can replicate and gather diagnostics - this being:
Country / zip code / lineup name / channel number / channel name / airing time / time zone / series - episode or movie

1st random show without a poster for me:

Country UK
zip code OX25
lineup name Freeview Meridian/Central OTA Broadcast
time zone BST

Well, the first one is probably because the series/episode is wrong:

  • channel 054 Paramount
  • Date time Thur-Oct-21 at 21:00
  • show Agent Carter
  • series/episode 10/18/19

I have found one that has correct series/episode info:

  • channel 019 Dave
  • Date time today - 20-Oct @ 16:00
  • show Would I lie to You
  • series/episode s4 e1

In finding that 2nd one, I had to go through a lot of:

  • shows that still have dates instead of series/episode info
  • movies are being reported as shows (and vice-versa).

There is clearly a long way to go before the EPG will be correct.

Is this still being investigated? If so, here’s some example data:
Server: 1.18.1.1973
ZIP code: 29607
Lineup: DVR—Broadcast TV Grnvll-Spart-Ashvll OTA Broadcast

Channel: 4.1 (WYFF)
Show: NFL Football

If I had to guess, I’d estimate that roughly a third of the OTA airings shown in the recommended section of my Live TV & DVR section show no poster images, including no images at all for any upcoming news programs:

Nudge.
I am having the same issue. Rebuilding the guide and adding the advanced data didn’t help. Please fix this as I was really excited for this to be way better.

genre is now available for filtering through the hosted Plex Web app (https://app.plex.tv/desktop) or the Plex Desktop app for Windows and Mac

Live TV & DVR → Browse → Shows → Genre

Since metadata providers was changed last summer, I have had poster art missing for local broadcasts recorded on the Plex DVR (HD Homerun), just like many others. I posted in these two threads:

My Plex library looks great, except for a bunch of TV recordings and it’s driving me crazy. I manually added cover art for the local 6PM news, but if the last recording is deleted, the next new record is missing the cover art again…

Is this something that is being looked into?

I’m wondering if cover art can be added to the XMLTV guide itself, that might help but not sure if this format allows for it. Anyone tried it?

Bump.
I see the poster when I go to the DVR Schedule screen but it doesn’t carry over locally. Used to before I migrated my content onto a new server and restarted the recordings. Since it is the local news, it seems near impossible to find the poster art independently.

could I have server logs (with debug enabled) covering the period after completing the recording. May be wait 20 minutes after recording completes and then get the server logs zip and screenshot of the issue

Also let me know which guide/lineup being used or xmltv - would need the xmltv file if that is what you have

For debug logging - see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

For capturing the logs - see https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

Hi @sa2000
Thanks for your response. Guide/lineup being used is “Broadcast TV San Fran/Sacramento OTA Broadcast” –
I will capture a fresh log later tonight with debug enabled.

Bump

Having the exact same issue, has anyone figured it out? Missing 60% of the “what’s on” cover images and it does not look very appealing at all.

I need some details to start investigating

As a starter - DVR Setup details:

  • Lineup/Guide name - this appears in DVR settings at the top
or if using xmltv - then need the file

  • give examples of channel numbers / channel names and series/episode details / airing time and timezone

might help also to get a copy of your EPG Plex Media Server database files

The database files would be in this Plex Media Server Application support directory

Plug-in Support/Databases/
and the file names start with tv.plex - there would be 3 files, .db. db-shm, db-wal

copy all 3 out and zip and send to me together with the info i asked for
