Hello, I live in Montreal, Canada and want to setup live tv & dvr. When I go to the channel lookup on the plex web site, there is the lineups to select, local over the air (OTA) or cables . in cable there is Videotron, can we connect Plex server with videotron digital receiver ?
all digital channel HD are listed, they are not available by antenna, only with digital terminal.
Thanks for your help
Plex has no direct access to either the TV tuner or the cable TV tuner. In addition to an over-the-air antenna (OTA) - or your cable service, you need a supported tuner. Supported DVR tuners and antennas can be found here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/225877427-Supported-DVR-Tuners-and-Antennas
For more information, check the DVR & Live TV support section here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/sections/205778607-DVR-Live-TV
In Canada, unlike in the USA, there is no mandate from the CRTC to provide a way to decrypt provider content. Videotron, like any other provider in Canada is a totally closed system. Everything and I mean everything is encrypted and there is no way to decrypt it. I scanned all the QAM to see if there are some clear channels and found only 2. Pay per view advertising channel and Videotron advertising channel.
The only way to use plex DVR in Montreal is with an antenna to get over the air channels. Depending where you live, with a good antenna system you can get all the canadian public broadcast channels along with all the high power USA channels.
Thanks to all
